They are called Mainzelmannchen. The Mainzelmännchen are six comedic cartoon characters used as mascots for the German public service television broadcaster ZDF. They first aired on television in 1963 to accommodate a government regulation prohibiting confusion between broadcast advertising and content

Those Sci-Fi figures from Atlantic are pretty cool (amongst ton of other things you caught in your bag 😮). Atlantic was an Italian brand that began in 1970 with small ( 1/72, H0 and 1/32) military sets. Those sets could include mono color injected plastic figures, model kit vehicles, part of decors, in order to reproduce scenes, dioramas, actions…Little by little, they will increase as diversify the scales they use, and they will work on more processes, material and techniques in order to improve the quality and value of their toys range, as many manufacturers compete in the same field (often proposing, more or less the same offer), increasing quality on the way, but also the market’s share/sharing. The brand shut down in 1986, but it would have undoubtedly left a trace into the minds and memories of old time collectors (especially those versed into military, history, real life, small scale plastic figures, model kits, dioramas lovers or proders), but also children at the time (mostly in Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, where these toys were differently and unevenly distributed/commercialized). In France, we mostly remember it, first, because it was well distributed (that’s crucial 😬), but also decisively since it brought toys based on two hyper popular (TV anime) licences between 1978 and 1979: Harlock/Albator and Grendizer/Goldorak/Goldrake. Based on what they used to manufacture at the time, Atlantic made a couple of plastic mini figures (just like those you would find with a model kit, molded in the mass, in one single color) for both licences. There were basically two sets for each, molded in a different color: one for the good guys, one for the bad guys/the enemies 👿. Besides, Atlantic made a giant Arcadia (looking like a Popy DX toy, except you needed to assemble parts like on a semi-finished model), a (Captain Harlock/Albator) spatial base at the same scale that of the plastic mini figures, and two plastic models roughly based on Grendizer/Goldorak/Goldrake: a decent looking (for the time) Grendizer (that could launch fists, like the Popy toy did), and an enemy called Golgoth (which was a generic name for giant machine robots that used to battle with Goldorak/Goldrake, in Japan or even English, i doubt they’re called that 🤨) that was a pure invention (it never existed in the series 😅). When Atlantic did capitalized on kids popular tv shows, by manufacturing toys (more or less faithful to the original and official material/origin), it didn’t bother to deal with rights owners 😂 That era was damn wild, I don’t know if Atlantic had ever had to pay any penalties for black marketing those toys..🤔 I’d rather think that it was their big heist as well as their golden age. I don’t even know how they could have survived until the end of 1986 past that…💭 The series of Human Robots and Alien Robots that you caught is from 1978 (you necessarily have to connect it with Star Wars success, as many other toys from that period of time 😅). It’s pretty cool and probably the best and at least most creative piece of work ever made by Atlantic. They hired designers to do so. And even though it may look simple/minimalist today, it was a significant work back in 1978: the scale was unusual and rather big, it was molded in at least two colors, the sculpt was quite extraordinary for the time, it came in a beautifully designed window box with several accessories. It may looks old now, but it was so modern when it was just released in 1978 🤩
I doubt it was a success, otherwise you wouldn’t still find so many on sales on the market places but also on some flea markets, up to nowadays 😬 Thing is: it values quite a lot now, complete in (a good condition’s) box, around or more than a hundred euros 😯
You really made a fantastic deal there! 🙌

Loved that toy when I was a kid - one of the first things I picked up when I got back into collecting toys...

I had one of those Savage Mondo Blitzers. The bug guy with the pistols. I recently saw one in a video (may have been yours from one of your trips to the USA) and had to get him back! All you toy guys end up making me spend so much money by reminding me of stuff I had when I was a kid lol.

For clarification, the Imperial Godzilla is the officially licenced toy of the time. They came in different sizes, but all looked the same as far as dorsal fins, red lips and general color scheme goes. The knock-offs usually have different dorsal fins (if any), and a lot of them came in different colors.
That other kaiju was such a knock-off, specifically of the Toho monster Gigan (who, up to that point, had appeared in two Godzilla movies and episodes of the TV series Zone Fighter). I also came in different colors.

There's some information about those Atlantic figures on 'Toyshop on Tour', Series 2, Episode 6 (about halfway through).
