Fun fact: it's faster to say world wide web than to say www. Its my turn to give you an existential crisis (also I like the Christmas jumper)

So it’s only been 34 years since the internet was made?

for people who are really young, back in the early 2000's people thought you're weird if you're an adult and you play video games and are on the internet, now all those people are addicted to their terrible mobile games, Internet was like a niche thing, most people weren't on it at all

I often like to say that the Internet is simultaneously the greatest and worst creation of humanity.

The best thing internet allowed is to 'share information'. In past people definitely came up with great theories and technology but due to lack of sharing they were lost to oblivion.

I'm 37 and when i was young we didn't have internet. We only started getting things like games that we could play on TV, first computers for home (Atari) and game consoles that only had 1 game (such as tetris) or two (snake) and it wasn't even common in my country so we just used to play outside, read comic books or play games with the dice and pawns or simply chess or checkers.
I am actually happy to live in a world where it all started to grow, right at the beggining. I got to experience the world without the internet and with it right from start. We didn't even have mobile phones at first. And the very first ones were heavy (soon after we got the famous Nokia's that were undestructable with few basic games on them too).
I remember the thrill when i first saw tamagochi and game boy consoles and the very first Super Mario games.
I don't even recall the breaking point of the internet appearance. It just so happened naturally. It was quite primitive at start and "creating websites" in schools were very simplified, uncreative and quite boring.
I still remember though that when we started having advertisements with websites - i was writing these websites down in my notebook - just so i could check them out later on. Mind you there weren't many websites at the beggining and i don't recall the search engine like google to exist. Or perhaps i was just silly. Either way i had like 2 pages filled with websites by the time i stopped because i finally got to use search engine as intended.
I've gotta say it was the experience that could happen once in a lifetime and nowadays people can't experience this anymore.
I'm glad i was born at the right moment in time.

I really do remember it. Would I want to go back to it? No, but would I like to live like it is, for just a while? I absolutely would.

Back when the internet was intended to share information. Now it's used to....

According to Google:

The first website was created in August 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN, a European nuclear research agency. Berners-Lee's WorldWideWeb browser became publicly available the same month. By the end of 1992, there were ten websites.

My mom when she was out of high school (this was like 1975) was told to not go into computers or a technology field because it would "never be useful or take off" so she became a dentist (a very good one at that). But man, was her professor wrong.

I am old enough to remember a time before the internet. It brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. Large groups getting together, long talks on a phone about everything, the fun of getting ready for company to come over, swapping / showing off your great VHS, tape, CD, Nintendo (or whatever you had) cartridges, watching home videos, spending so much time outside and with family, listening to the radio or watching a music television show just to hear your favorite songs because you just could not get them without going out and buying an entire album (that is if the record store even had the CD, tape or records and weren't sold out). It was so exciting and filled you with warm fuzzies when you finally heard it.
It goes on and on.
I am not saying everything is bad now, and certainly some things are better, but how do I miss the simplicity of everything pre internet and even during the dawn of the modern internet era.

The internet is far, far older than 1990. Computers we’re connecting over large distances since the late 60’s to early 70’s

Fun fact, a very early and experimental form of the internet was actually being used by the U.S Government as early as the 1960s.

I'm at the age wherein I used these topics for my editorial practice when I was in elementary. Back then, I was part of the Journalism Club. Our newspaper required us to have contents about these future technologies- internet, micro sd, usb, anything about our phones rn. I used to write how these things will affect education, world, and just anything. It was such a distant memory but that is like just 13-15 years ago.

I remember the feeling of amazement when I read that the goal is being able to access tons of information from one click, storing anything in a tiny chip(it was called chip before).

The world indeed change a lot in a span of less than 20 years.
