A World Cup Every Two Years? | Tifo Talks

FIFA are proposing a World Cup every two years, rather than the current every four. FIFA, unlike UEFA, operates at a loss on non-World-cup-years, so are looking for a way to increase revenue. But is hosting a World Cup more frequently the answer?

As Joe Devine explains some small nations, like Scotland, are likely to favour this idea, but like Santa drinking all the whisky left out for him on Christmas day, could overindulgence lead to disaster?

While we’re here, opening up the game to non-European markets is probably the most sensible progression for the long-term growth of football. Can’t help but feel there has to be a better way to do it….

The beauty is in its rarity. FIFA world cup is the most prestigious tournament out of all sports only surpassed by the Olympics. Doing it every 2 years would be a massive disservice to all the legends of the game and the previous winners.

What about a FIFA Intercontinental Cup (An Europa League imitation)? This would give chances of glory to the smaller nations and would be great for countries that have one or two players who are world class but don't make it to World Cups like Egypt. It would also reveal whether FIFA just want more money or actually want to give smaller nations chances.

Considering Arsene's last "brilliant" idea was closing the Premier League transfer window before the rest of Europe, saying the rest of Europe would happily follow along and never, ever, ever just wait until after the PL window had closed before unsettling players into forcing cut rate transfers away from English clubs who couldn't be replaced, because the transfer window was closed...color me skeptical.

I like the idea of enjoying the World Cup every 2 years. However, I would recommend that the UK be declared the permanent host due to their fan base, mild weather and state of the arts facilities.
