Andor Just Fixed my BIGGEST Problem

Andor episode 6 just did something awesome. In too many Star Wars shows or movies the Empire is portrayed as being made up simply of people who are pure evil or Rebel sympathizers. The truth is actually much worse: that a lot of people have been corrupted by the Empire. More on today's video.

This portrayal of the Empire is much more grounded in reality than some other depictions, their members still do terrible things but we can see they have realistic motivations, like Sgt Mosk from the PreMor security, he's just a normal guy trying to keep the peace but i'm sure he steps on a lot of toes doing it. But he isn't evil. I'm sure most Imps didn't know the Emperor was a sith lord. They aren't foaming at the mouth lunatics like the First Order, they're normal people trying to earn a living

The Imp troopers actually battled reasonably well unlike the stormies who blindly got massacred in The Mandalorian S2.

I love this show because of the murkiness of good and evil that it presents.
Good characters on the wrong side, evil characters on the right side.
There's no clear line. It's chaotic and believable.

RIP to the Colonel. He died trying to save a young boy from terrorists. Did anyone else like how the Imperial Army isn't incompetent? The comm officer noted the lack of comms and instead of "oh well, " he immediately becomes suspicious, like a trained soldier would.

I was really not expecting that guy to actually do something like that, and was even more surprised when it was to try and protect a boy being threatened at gunpoint. It always good to see imperials who do/try to do good things yet are not these "I'm now with the rebellion because this reason or that" Imperials.

This is the exact take I got from this episode. The empire has always been portrayed as comically evil. When they took the commandant's wife and kid hostage, my thoughts were he would let him die as to not sully his career. But he and this imperial base was written that they also have things dear to them they want protect. A gray side to star wars that rarely if ever is shown.

This is why i loved this episode. Our "good guys" took Child hostage and one even might have killed him and His Mother and Our "bad guy" risked and Lost his life trying To save him

I've really enjoyed this show's depiction of the people of the Star Wars galaxy - while there are definitely "good" and "evil" characters at large, for the most part it's regular people getting swept up in the tides of history (Clone Wars, Rebellion, etc.) Sometimes they're self-interested, sometimes they choose the wrong side, and even if they chose the right side they can still lose or be killed.

Andor is knocking it out of the park. Every episode is great, and I can hardly find a thing to nitpick. A masterpiece

When he started yelling to let the kid go, I started getting a soft spot for that imperial. Obviously he believed in the Empire, but was not a murdering monster and did care for others. Such a great portrayal and can’t wait for the next episode!!!

It perfectly fits this "grown-up" Star Wars, we saw in Rogue One already. We saw Andor kill an ally within minutes of that movie, ruthlessly. Doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. And this engineer is probably just the same. I like this, because it makes you think.

This shows writing is what BoBF and Kenobi missed completely. The logic to the engagements and plans works so much better than mindlessly smashing action figures together like the other shows have done. The fact that the good guys just die in the fight without any sort of extra unnecessary dramatic flair was admirable as well because too many shows are afraid to have the good guys die the same way as the bad guys, just by getting shot and dying like someone would.

the writing is so good. every character feels like a real person, fully fleshed out. there are times it feels like a documentary.

My biggest beef with Star Wars is that the Empire was always portrayed as evil...but still had a whole slew of planets, peoples, etc that supported them, usually without any pushback. The twin issues of how an objectively evil entity that massacred it's own citizens could have supporters continually, and how people could honestly see the Rebellion as bad is never raised. I am glad Andor is "going there".

I am loving the portrayal of the Empire and the use of Army troopers. The story has been researched exceptionally well

This is so cool, because Andor has been drawing a ton from the WW2 parallels originally in Star Wars. The “ordinary nature” of some evil is exactly what the term “the banality of evil” was referring to during the Nuremberg Trials.

Reminds me of the cut scene in ROTJ when the Moff is ordered to destroy Endor even with Imperial forces on the planet. As the Death Star is moved into position we see him and the gunners all looking hesitant and like: "Are we actually going to do this?"

But unfortunately the scene was cut. Nice to see this attitude being returned to some Imperial officers.

Banality of evil. Impressive of Disney and the writers to explore such a concept

it's nice how even the grunts felt humanized, playing cards and worrying about missing The Eye,
and I thought for sure that one rebel who lost her family would've killed the hostages

Damn. The brief action from this guy actually felt heroic. I hope we see more of this.
