Attic Air-Sealing Strategies

Attics have a reputation for being a common source of air leaks, as fiberglass and other common insulation materials do not stop air flow. There are effective ways to upgrade your air-sealing strategy with insulating foam.

In this attic, Myron Ferguson identifies light fixtures that are drafting warm air from the living area up into the attic, loosing heat and wasting energy along the way. Myron prefers expanding foam like Loctite TITE FOAM because it fully blocks air movement when installed properly.

Hey a commercial for Loctight. I thought it was a tip from my trusted subscription-model home building magazine.

Use a rockwool cover for those instead of covering with foam. Foam the base of the cover.

Use fire stop foam or rockwool. Not the one on this video. It is flammable.

Perhaps heat needs to have an escape route in light fixtures so they don't overheat and catch fire ??

My question is why? What difference does it make if the cracks are sealed, if it all sits under R60? A little air crack is going to work its way through R60?

Educational advertising. I can accept they have to pay for equipment and staff.

Got to be careful sealing around the old recessed can lights, there all not insulation contact. They will over heat !
