As for the CGI, i think we shouldn't complain: considering how limited it would become to pratical effects and how, comparing to Marvel phase 4 CGI-- an VERY rich franchise when it comes to budget-- those effects actually look pretty realistic.

From this film I was expecting awesome rider kicks, campy filming techniques, and just generally a nice homage to Showa era tokusatsu. What I was NOT expecting was for it to do all that and ALSO make me cry

I totally understand the criticisms, the first time I watched this movie I had very mixed feelings on it, thank God they did a second showing from popular demand. Because my second viewing completely changed my perspective and I really love the movie. I think that reading and watching the supplemental material really helps, also I always think it's funny people complain about certain aspects of Anno's work and yet those are usually the aspects that people praise in stuff like evangelion. I guess it just goes to show that over time tastes can really change and the context in which you do some of the same stuff can drastically change how people feel about it

As a long time KR fan, I see so many dumb arguments in the comments for why this movie is beyond criticism. Making a movie a love letter to an old TV show and manga is not a good argument for someone looking for a focused story. In fact, it's a moronic argument. If you're going to adapt a long story into a 2 hour movie, you have to cut out A LOT or make a new story. If you're gonna end up with a messy story as a love letter to fans but STILL PUT IT IN THEATRE, then expect criticism. Nobody is "wrong" for calling this out, a movie must be able to stand on it's own regardless if it's faithful to the original manga, no point telling anyone about it's accuracy as if most of them are going to bother reading it and if the final product is still a mess. They want to see a film, not a manga, and should not be made to read or enjoy it to appreciate the movie, especially if they're first timers going into the franchise which I think this movie is a bad start. Because guess what? ANYBODY is welcome to watch the movie, even people who has never watched or read KR. And if there are people who don't like it, all the power to them. They should be allowed to voice their negative opinions as much as the people whom voice their positive opinions on it. This is common sense.
