Will New Los Angeles DA Free the Menendez Brothers?

New Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman decisively beat incumbent George Gascon at the polls. Now, a "pall of uncertainty" exists over the expected release of Lyle and Erik Menendez, according to CNN. In a statement, Hochman says "Before I can make any decision about the Menendez brothers' case, I will need to become thoroughly familiar with the relevant facts, the evidence, and the law." They’ve served the punishment length for what they were charged with that more than meets the length of time for most of the world. Given that there’s so much more going on here behind their actions, the fact they’re low risk, and all they’ve accomplished behind bars… let them out already. Maybe it’ll start a precedent for the rest of the country where men and boys who’ve experienced abuse will be considered.

I hope this new DA is empathetic enough to analyse the abuse as its important context for the crime. It would be not only the wrong choice, but incredibly cruel if these brothers were denied again.

The parents were guilty of m0l3st!ing their children, with mounting evidence revealing the full extent of their actions. Given this, a new sentencing must be issued—failing to do so would be a betrayal of justice. Our system cannot stand if it allows such injustice to go unchecked. These brothers need to be out!
