Welcome to Not Quite Enough Vlogmas 2022.

My name is Lesley, usually host of the “Not Quite Enough Yarn” podcast, and this is my daily journey through December (well, as far as Christmas).

My Home Made advent is inspired by three people:

Caleisha of the Quirky Monday Craftcast

Marceline of the Hey Brownberry Podcast

And viewer, Dr Evelyn Sharp.

Thank you to all of these wonderful folks for their suggestions.

If you are interested in the Christmas Stockings the pattern is:
Mini Christmas Stockings.

Oddments of yarn and needles to suit.

M1 – Make one by lifting the loop between the two needles, and then knitting into the back of it.
w&t – wrap and turn

The stockings are worked flat from the toe up.

Cast on 8 stitches.
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: K3, M1, K2, M1, K3 (10 sts)
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: K3, M1, K4, M1, K3 (12 sts)
Row 5: Purl

Work 4 rows stocking stitch.

Heel
Row 1: K9, w&t
Row 2: P6, w&t
Row 3: K5, w&t
Row 4: P4, w&t
Row 5: K3, w&t
Row 6: P3, w&t
Row 7: K4, w&t
Row 8 P5, w&t
Row 9: K6, w&t
Row 10: Purl to end.

Work 8 rows stocking stitch.

Work 3 row in your edging of choice (eg garter st, single rib or moss stitch).

Cast off loosely.

Fold the stocking in half and sew up around the toe and along the centre top of the foot and leg.

And whatever you’re doing, don’t forget the December Make Along, on Ravelry:

In what is a very busy month for many, this is just a chance to share whatever you are working on, in the hope that you have a few minutes each day to do something you enjoy.

Prizes will be drawn in January 2023.

All crafts allowed.

All chatter encouraged.

Thanks all xx

I finished my bachelor's in nursing when I was 22. I was glad to get my degree young. Congratulations Leslie! It is a great accomplishment; especially how to learn. God bless you.

I agree. I have three degrees and trust me, I know very little! 😂 But it opens up your different cultures, people and being so open to learning.

Loved the song. It’s how I feel at the moment too. My OU experience was extremely positive on the whole. Most tutors were excellent - one or two exceptions. It took me 6 years too - and I wasn’t working at the same time, just bringing up a family xx

Merry Christmas, Lesley! I’m very much enjoying your vlogs!
Following from the last couple of days experiences, I’d like to just send you a virtual hug!
I too returned to Uni when I was 58. I was bored and felt like I was losing my mind…so what’s one to do but go to school🙄… the first two years were easy as I wasn’t concerned about grades. What I did do was study the lecturers, listened to their off hand dialogues and then based my essays on their preferences as academia was what they expected, not what I actually thought myself. I graduated, surprising myself as it never really was the game plan when I started, but I think education is always a good thing..by whatever source…books, life experiences, or formal education..it all counts.

My favourite song so far - brilliant! I followed the same sort of path, going to uni in my thirties (with a young family!) 17th century history and literature for me with a bit of 20th century thrown in. I used to go to the Lit and Phil in Newcastle to study in peace. If I read a book every day for the rest of my life I wouldn't even have completed one room.

I enjoyed your vlog as usual. I went on a little trip with the Seniors from church. We ate at a restaurant in Fife called the Poodle Dog. Busy busy and good food! Then to a huge church for a Singing Christmas Tree. It was really nice. I am glad I was not sitting on the aisle, I nodded off a couple times! Anyway glad to be home with Betty.

The song was great!! But the real trick is finding things later and figuring where you “hid” them. Also thank you for sharing your memories each day. I feel that let’s us know you better. Loved your college story. Yes, kids think they know everything until they go for that degree. I had to decide if I wanted to start a family or finish my degree first. So glad I finished. I hardly used my degree but it did open some doors. Most of all it gave me confidence!!

Great song today and the jazz hands really do add something! 🤣🤣 Very interesting to hear about your OU degree and congratulations on achieving that! I know how long they take. My friend never completed hers and she always regretted it. Take care x

Hi Lesley, I also want to stuff it all in a cupboard (which wouldn’t be practical anyway), but I’ve started « decluttering » again… Have a great weekend and keep well xx

My degree studies taught me exactly the same thing...how much I don't know but also how to learn, research and stay curious about what I didn't know. It was a great process. I had to finish it part time because I ran out of money but then I got a job in the university library and my fees were reduced to only $12 a course!! I was so fortunate but as you discovered, there was a lot of work and self-discipline required. Thanks for the memory! HUgs

Got to crochet some on a neck scarf today.
Made new pattern dish scrubbie Christmas Tree shape. Impressed with 1st try.. used 2 strands of Scrubbie yarn held together for thickness & durability.

Glad you told that fella to shut his pie hole! 😤 I also went to Uni as a mature student in my 20s, and I absolutely loved the vast majority of my time learning & having my eyes opened to so much I didn’t know. African American studies, Women’s studies, Nature Writing, — these especially made me add minors to my major, and my goodness there was SO MUCH ELSE as well I didn’t know and wanted to learn…. I think the OU is fantastic, and when I moved across the big pond & heard about the OU, I was impressed (and tempted!!)
