This seems to be a bit of a debate, which is natural for a car video with "vs" in the title. I'll try to clarify. Cobras are vicious for their power to weight and accelerate insanely fast, however acceleration doesn't matter with how long and straight they were going. Cobras are very drag limited and run into lift issues. They used a Cobra kit car for filming, but let's assume it's a genuine real deal 427. They top out at 168MPH. The Porsche stock topped out at 174 and was made with 30 some years of technological improvement to get around lift issues at those speeds(has an additional gear for one). It's within the realm of reason to assume the Cobra was pegged earlier and the Porsche slowly made up the difference and eventually overtook the Cobra at the wall when considering real time for the dialogue.

Now if it was a proper quarter mile drag race? My money would be on the Cobra + drag radials hands down no doubt about it.

That Porsche has amazing brakes! It was going well over 100 mph when it squeezed through that gap. Some how it managed to stop 50 feet from the Cobra. Incredible

Such a beautiful Porsche. Apparently for this movie there were three cars, one was Michael bays and the other two were from the crew that worked on in the film. As you can see thee first one has black callipers that is in the opening scene and the other two are used for the hanger which have red callipers if you look closely
