As a former Benedictine monk, I would personally add the anonymous English monk who wrote the Cloud of Unknowing which is what I modelled and used as a blueprint of sorts in an extended mediation where I had my first genuine experience of the Presence of God, in the nothingness after everything in history behind me and then after a couple of breaths I shot up out of the cloud and was there. And that was just the beginning. Also need to mention John of the Cross, Your own local KY hero Thomas Merton, specifically No Man Is an Island, and then for good measure throw in Thomas a Kempis, and a quirky little illustrated book called Tales of a Magic Monastery by Theopane the Monk. And God yes to the Meister

Hey Ken, I don't know if you went back to the last comment about my trying to get some nutrition in my friend dying from cancer. A nurse came over and gave him more morphine because he had rapid breathing and wasn't conscious at all that day. His brother and I checked on him an hour later and I said okay he's breathing better. His brother told me "No Blitzer, he isn't breathing at all! He was gone yesterday when we went to check on him at 4:30 pm. RIP Henry. I thought he had a few more days or a week, but it wasn't to be. I know you had that experience taking care of someone you cared about with cancer. It sucks really bad, but the suffering is over.
