Psara (Ψαρά) is a small mountainous Greek island located 22 km west of the island of Chios. In 1824, the Turks landed on Psara and completely destroyed the island in revenge for their participation in the Greek Revolution. Of the 30,000 inhabitants, only 3,000 survived. Today, the population is around 500. Psara offers visitors plenty of tranquillity and beautiful beaches. The northeasternmost known Mycenaean settlement has been found in the Archontiki area, along with 163 tombs. From the island of Chios, Psara can be reached by boat from the ports of Limnia (Volissos) or from the town of Chios.
