this is a much clearer presentation on the material than the other lecture this channel has on the same -though conveying WHY the circuit "latches" needs help. it is really simple and would help viewers a great deal to explain it.

the circuit is meant to be a latch. Both R and S are meant to hold a value of 0 until either get s a pulse to effect the desired state of locked or unlocked. if Q is 1, then the latch is set (much like a lock). R = 1 will reset Q = 0, or unlock the circuit. Any subsequent signals of R = 1 will cause NO CHANGE. Much like if you try to unlock your car after it has already been unlocked. no change. S must get a value of 1 while Q = 0 to "latch" or lock the circuit. Once latched, any subsequent signals of S = 1 will cause no change.

that is the intuition behind the circuit. now the theory should be much easier to grasp... the circuit can be designed for R and S to hold a value of 1 most of the time, and then the value of 0 would be the value to effect the change of state.
