For cartoon tank treads that is okay, to make them more realistic I would use something else like a single face for example to array and deform it along the curve. Then instance the tank tread object on those faces so they do not get deformed, because real tank treads are quite rigid.

instead of manually making the curve u might be able to make a geometry node set up to enclose on a set of wheels using the convex hull node. i haven't tried it but that's basically what convex hull does so i imagine it'd work
