Jay, the back of the jumpseat folds in half to take up less room. It would have come up higher on your back if you unfolded it. The chrome pieces on top are the hinges

Thanks for adding a "light" on the subject! It helped to see what you were explaining about the back seat area.👍

My grand father ran the dealer service dept at a buick dealership and would only work on caddies or buicks.Early years most were doctors or lawyers.Doctors always had spot lights to see house numbers. His personal car was a 40 caddy 60 series. The car was always like new till his death in 1972.Always cleaning or servicing it. It was a beautiful automobile. My dad said hard steering.I can"t imagine how hard the v-16 model was to steer.

Hi I actually owned a72 it was a 7pass sedan no divider window . Very good driving for it's size. It was 6 volt reverse polarity system. The interior did have real wood.

Beautiful car! I especially love the chrome accent strips running across the width of the running boards front and back, the incredible wood window trim, and the Art Deco trim on the dome and rear interior lights. I think its interesting that '40 Caddies and Packards kept the headlights mounted to the sides of the hood rather than integrating them into the fenders as was the prevalent style by that time. Its like they figured their buyers were on the stodgy side so they styled their cars accordingly.

11:52 _You can raise the partition if you don't want to hear the driver complain about how upright the front seat is ..._
GREAT LINE !!

Loved the "Duke of Earl" reference!

The rear door doesn't have an armrest because the rear seat is placed further back. It doesn't make sense to have an armrest on the door.

Thanks Jay for giving us a tour of this '40 Cadillac limousine. Luxurious way back in the '40s..

Awesome car and video!!! I have a 72 Series Fleetwood 7 passenger Sedan. Only 305 made. Mine is 100% original and runs beautifully. The paint is faded, headliners hanging down, seats in bad shape, etc. and I wouldn’t change it for anything I love it. I really enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing, Tony

As far as sheer quality goes, the Packards are at the top of the heap.

But those Lincoln Zephyrs were some of the most absolutely beautiful cars ever conceived... Especially that Business Coupe, with it's swooping deck lid!

This Cadillac is absolutely beautiful, though.

We'll never see craftsmanship or luxury like this again in a modern production car.

I kind of like seeing the 1940 Lincoln and Cadillac side by side, since Henry Leland created both companies. But the Lincoln Zephyr just looks fast! 👍

I love your videos; totally awesome!! I've got just one hint, if you will notice that that jump seat's backrest is hinged about half way up to allow the backrest to come up much higher. You could footnote that item if you would like. Also these cars typically did not have arm rests on the back doors because they were back with the seat. Thank you for your good work and please keep these amazing videos coming!!🤩🤩🤩

Great review, Jay‼I can't imagine who would have that kind of money in 1940. I'm always bummed when you forget the radio /heater features of the 1940's because those beauties were way before my time. Glad you are felling better👍🏼

Hi Jay, it's stunning and gorgeous this Caddy, even more impressive than the 75! But if we look more to the depth, this model'sbody was built by Fisher, not by Fleetwood, hence the somewhat lower price tag. Watching even more closely, the 72 from 1940 and the 67 from the following two model years shared the bodyshell with the Buick 90 Limited. With this rationalising measure GM hoped to economise on body-tooling expenses. Informations aside, I still long to have a date with my lady-friend on the sofa-like back seat of one of these cream-puffs!!!

Nice car, my friend. Too bad it got sold. I would LOVE to have a car like it.

The 40 caddys could be ordered with no side mounts or a single or both.I believe it still had placement for trunk mount too.

I'd go with the caddy I really liked the front and all the chrome and the backseat dang you could camp back there.

It's a good thing you recorded this before they sold it!

Another beautiful old car. One thing I noticed about the headlights is how they aren't blending in with the front fenders like other 1940 GM cars. Not unlike the 1961-64 Cadillac limos which had 1959-style windshields/vent windows. Another example would be the 1949 Series 75, which carried over the pre-war styling when all other GM cars were all new.

Still, I would prefer the 1940 Packard. Probably because I like the hood ornament and front end treatment. And I would go for the 1939 Lincoln Zephyr.
