In a film full of impactful imagery, this female SS sequence is my favorite.

How she facilitates the murder/torture while consuming delicacies… only to have the enemy smoke them down the road…. Pure evil obliviousness faces its reckoning.

They cut out the entire fight between the partisans and the germans. The way the woman links the two contrasting scenes is geniusly poetic..(the beauty, joy and excess of war now just lies in the dirt to die away)
This movie made me feel so many things..

Showing the aftermath is a genius choice that puts all the emphasis on the final scene while still showing enough for the viewer to understand what happened in the general picture and what happened to that particular girl and her hapless escort. It was all-important to show the butchers being "tried" and executed just after the massacre they committed. Brilliant! Well, this movie is a masterpiece.

Seeing this girl dying like this is unsettling in a complex sort of way. She was in the SS and condoned atrocities. Yet she was someone's daughter and if she was born in say, 1923, there was a time when she wasn't indoctrinated yet. I can well imagine a WW1 veteran who loved the old Germany and loved this daughter he had after getting married.

As a daughter and human being, she had this in common with the very people she watched being slaughtered; she was treated just like so many women in that village. I think this is that commonality of humanity that was shown by this unsettling scene.

And yes, she was obviously some secretary or nurse who had come to watch the "show". In armies without women in combat roles, you'll have female auxiliaries in communications, admin, medic, etc.

My neighbour Vasili Gusarof 16 years old in 1941 joint Partisans in Bryansk forests. He receive Red Star order for his battle actions. He told me, that in 1944 after Bryansk liberation, large company of russian-collaborants try to surrender to his partisan detachment. It was a grey zone, were is no Germans, but Red Army doesn't control this area yet, only partisans. They shot all of collaborants. About 100 former polizei hiwi. Without investigation and trials. Partisans afraid that they receive only a long sentances in GULAG instead death penalty. Uncle Vasja is 99 years old now, USSR Air Forse Colonel ret.

Yeah I found it funny they show a Nazi woman in the scene as women troops weren’t really in the front during the war. A lot of critics saw that a distinct material. She could be a guard commander but being escorted by the SS and ended up being in the situation when she was on her way to be at her original post.

Because she appears half naked at the end, I always thought that the woman had been raped by the partisans, and that those scenes had been left out in the editing.

This is a very strange angle for the new Red Lobster campaign.

Strange to see people immediately write "Deserved" or smth. You can't split violence on two and tell what is good violence and what is bad... This woman got raped, humiliated and left to die in unimaginable pain. She became another victim of war and that's the irony, but this scene is still disgusting and horrible. That is the reality of war - blood, inhuman action, cruelty and endless circle of vengeance. There's nothing you can laugh at or seek some kind of justice
