A great anti Zangief tactic for certain characters with active and far reaching hitboxes is to press that button and cancel into DI if it hits Gief's HP super armour.

So Ken you can fish for a lot of things with Ken or Ryu st. HP in neutral for instance, and if the Gief tries to counter that with DI or HP, you cancel the HP into DI and you beat their "counter"

Shuts down annoying Gief neutral if they like to absorb hits with the HP armour

Me personally, I’d still DP Gief’s jumping charging HK, only because he could just empty jump the whole interaction and just SPD as he lands.

Gief is a cheap, poorly designed character. Must easier to play and abuse than he is to beat, which is why his win rate so so high in the 1700+MR ranks. Stuff like his drive meter gain is obviously getting nerfed.

Headbutt into Hellstab is a close to a game changer for him, while overall meter gain is a nice bonus. S.MK is also a sleeper hit if you ask me. I've already got plenty of mileage on it for whiff punishing and we've only just begun.
