For context on what actually happened there:
*France was constantly booed at in rehearsals for not competing with a "high classy song"
*The orchestra hated the song. They started playing it in a much faster tempo to get it over quickly. France was thrown off and did many mistakes (the first note of her singing was very off key, and she constantlly messed the keys of the refrain lines). She called Claude Francois (her boyfriend at the time) after the performance, and he reportedly berated her for delivering a terrible performance, to the point that he broke off their relationship on the spot.
*Kathy Kirby, the UK representative slapped France across her face and allegedly called her a dump bimbo.
*The jury loved France's voice and the upbeat song despite the flawed performance, and ultimately got her the winning vote. France was crying in her final performance; not because of joy, she had to endure all of the above. Keep in mind, she was 17 years old.
