Yesterday American Airlines operated the final revenue flight of a McDonnell Douglas MD80 ending nearly 37 years of service. At one point the airline operated 362 of them!
Most of you have probably seen the AA MD80 in action and some of you probably flew it. Here we selected some video footage from many airports around the USA including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, New York, San Diego and Washington.

Thank you for posting this it brings back memories to me I worked at McDonnell Douglas as a flight ramp mechanic and of all the aircraft the MD 80s were by far my favorite they were just so reliable no computers to run anything the empty 90s that was a different story and I also worked on the 717KC 10s MD-11 finish my career on the C-17

Thanks for the videos. Great old bird. I flew the Mad Dog at AA for some 20 years as copilot when they first arrived, and Captain until I retired, and loved every minute of it. AA did a great job of maintaining and supporting the fleet. The engines were great - I only lost one... climbing to 370 at 4AM between Phoenix and Chicago. Diverted into Kansas City, and it turned out to be the fuel temp sensor was all.

I'm a retired American airline employee I had the privilege to work on them and fly these planes. They are truly great planes. And truly a work horse THANK you md80 .

I enjoyed it they will be missed. They were one of the best airplanes out there.

My all-time favorite aircraft. The aesthetics, the power, and the quirkiness of the design will never be seen again. Proud to have flown on them for well over 2 decades and will sorely miss their silver gleam over DFW.

I’m sad to see the Maddogs go. I think that how long these aircraft stayed in service for really speaks volumes about how reliable and useful these aircrafts are. Many of these Maddogs have outlived numerous 737s and A320s.

A true pilot’s and avgeek’s airplane. I used to hate flying on these but as I fell more in love with aviation I saw their true beauty. RIP silver bullet!

Sad to know I missed the golden age of more diversity in the skies. Beautiful aircraft.

THE B747 IS OFTEN CALLED "THE QUEEN OF THE SKY"...BUT FOR SOME OF US THE MD SUPER 80 (IN THE AA LIVERY) SURELY EARENED THE TITLE "PRINCESS OF THE SKY"! WHAT A GREAT TRIBUTE! THANKS.

I'm going to missed McDonnell Douglas MD-80s. These wonderful airplanes shouldn't retired and I'm glad to fly one of these airplanes because it's something that I will keep my memories as a childhood now as an adult grown up I will never forget those airplanes. Gone but not forgotten. RIP MD-80's from 1983-2019.

We will never see the beloved silver livery again. The MD-80s were the last to use the silver livery and it just looked so beautiful. So sad to see an amazing aircraft like this go. You will be miss.

✈Farewell MadDog MD-80 ✈
