REVIEW: MTH Yellowstone M-3 2021 release #220

Had to review the latest from MTH, and this being a Yellowstone and likely the last time it'll be produced for quite some time, I had to get another one. So #232 is a 2014 run from MTH and #220 is the 2021 release. I plan to do a video in the future, with 3 of these pulling a train, hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later.

Anyways, purchase yours from Trainworld for a great price for $580-$600.

Excellent product analysis, the yellowstone (2-8-8-4) is 1 of my favorite articulated steam locomotives & it is nice to see this engine type produced in ho scale (non-brass).

After watching about the 2 MTH Yellowstobes you forgot to mention some differences between the two models.
On the tender of the Yellowstone 220, there is no DCS/ DCC switch. There is only a volume control and smoke buttons. Also, the 220 is factory hard wire connected. You have to loosen the screw to change to settings for large scale track to make it look prototypical.
There are only 3 Yellowstones that did not get scrapped. 229 in located at Proctor, Mn 227 is located in the Muesum at Duluth, Mn and 225 is spending its life resting in Two Harbors, Mn.
The first Yellowstone that MTH made has 3 switches on the tender which controls the smoke unit, DCC/DCS control and the volume control. The only difference between the early and new version is that you can take the newer version and set it right on the your layout track and run it as a DCC unit, DC unit or a DCS unit without changing the switch settings on the engine.

I just received #220 (Fantastic Steamer) and I was able to uncouple and adjust the tender just as their previous run on #232. It wasn't bolted together...Great review tho! Loved that steaming whistle

I prefer the 2016-2017 release over the 2021 release. The older release felt more durable and it had a operating coupler. Plus the sound sounds more beefier than the 2021 release.
