Mona Mourshed has led engagements across the world in Asia, Europe, South America, the Middle East, and the United States, supporting school systems and vocational higher-education institutions to improve students' skills, their chances of finding jobs, and their day-to-day lives. Her most recent work, focused on youth unemployment, is unlocking the global conundrum of high levels of joblessness among young people and a shortage of job seekers with critical skills. In order to tackle this looming global issue, Mona has assisted in the design, implementation, and reforming of strategies to improve student outcomes in schools; one program nearly doubling literacy rates to 86 percent at the primary-school level in four years.

Love this narrative, we all have a role to play in ensuring our youth are given a fair chance at succeeding - education in institutions alone is not enough, corporates have a massive role to play

The real picture of global youth unemployment is much more gloomy than global gov admit. The problem is so bad that countries like India, Nigeria, Egypt, etc.. are going to have lost generations...

Been looking for a job for two years now, have bechalor's degree in accounting and I've been looking for a job in all vocations I feel qualified for... 360 applications deep (and thats only those I can track) and still no luck. Employers demand years of working experience even for junior positions and don't even bother opening entry level positions here in South Moravia... Where, for crying out loud, am I supposed to earn relevant experience? When will the employers realise, that they have to teach their employees the skills they want their staff to have? Every organisation is different, unique even, so school system literarly can't prepare young people for a particular position in a company! The only organisation, that can change what they teach fast enough is the employer, because he is working with that live process and/or technology, he has primary data regarding his needs, not schools and definitely not government... But sure, why not to save some money and screw up entire generation in the process.. right employers?

In Canada we have schools where you learn practical skills designed by employers. It’s called a COLLEGE DIPLOMA! But guess what, most employers still want a “4-year university degree” and put that on the job requirement. My colleagues assume I have a masters degree because most of our new hires have one. I will get a masters in a few years because the fear of unemployment is always looming over me.

1. Yesmin(24 years old above average in academics) 👉 She went through university doing an Economics degree blindly 'using the path of least resistance' having not asked questions like how relevant what impact my course can be to employers.
She applies to different opportunities and her skills don't fit the roles on demand.

2. Mark(Hr manufacturing company) 👉Needs a mechatronics professional not offered by many Universities 'asks universities to add it to the curriculum, they are contented with what they already offer', he then resorts to poaching talent from competitors.

3. Eduardo (senior university administrator in Mexico) 👉 Wants students to graduate & get good jobs but also contribute to society in their areas of interest. They need to maintain University traditions much as employers tell him the student's interests might not be in line with the employer's needs.

The above process continues, on and on in different nations with youth feeling education is irrelevant much as it takes all their money & employers are not pleased with having to retrain talent.

This is so-far among the best, if not the best videos that explains youth unemployment to the core.

The guy she used on the second example, Mark, who wanted the mechatronics expert fresh out of college, is on a wild goose chase, I´m sorry to say. Expecting to find someone with such a precise set of highly qualified and interdisciplinary skills, who is also a problem solver, troubleshooter, who works effectively in teams AND, again, is fresh out college is like searching for a freaking unicorn. If I've learned anything when I was employed was that effective problem solving and anticipating troubles that may come ahead relies mainly on experience. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Two words, "MORE INTERNSHIPS"
That is the link between the educational system and the workplace. If enterprises offered more training facilities via professional internships for post-graduates and beyond, I think that will go a long way to reconnect the job-skill mismatches.

Maybe employers need to stop being so lazy and train the people they need. And if they can't fill a position maybe you need to offer more of an incentive. Corporations are now much more entitled.

A Solution for Unemployment, Economic crisis And Trade

Our world is traveling through a period like serious issue of unemployment, economic crisis and trade wars. Presently major part of the products using by the common people are made from a country. This allows a certain country to become rich, and the peoples in other countries cannot find jobs in their country. I am very much curious to find a solution for this problem. This issue increase the number of unemployed peoples in all other countries. A certain country becomes as the world's production house. It is not acceptable, we must have to divide production to every country or we have to find a solution to getting opportunity to the other countries to produce and market their products. I think that I can suggest the best idea to avoid the Unemployment, Economic crisis and Trade wars. Every country has to get market for their products at least in their country. Now a days we can see that a certain countries products are available all over the world and we can say that they are the production house of world. This situation must have to change. Each countries must have to take action against this to secure their market at least for their own products. To control these products in any countries market, they just have to realize the the promotion of these products. So we must have to realize that how they are promoting their products successfully. We can see that they are promoting their products psychologically (low price). The price difference between the same product of any other country (low price) make a tendency to attract the people. So first we have to find a solution to control this mode of promotion. To control this, one can fix a minimum price for each product in their country. Ie. Imported products price must not be less than the price of home country products. If you are selling a ball pen in a supermarket, there should be home countries products and imported product, the price will not less than the home country products. Equality of price will make the people to think, and they will chose the right one. Also one who is looking for a particular brand, they will choose it only. They don't care about the price. This situation will allow the products of every countries to find market. It will allow the products to maintain the quality. Once every countries have the opportunity to perform a competitive market, it will allow to increase the production in every land. So that naturally it will increases the employment rate. It will adjust the equilibrium of unemployed people in every country. I think this is the only way to adjust the equilibrium of world economy.

Europe need a new economy system that are based on humanism and not economic theories and ideologies. They need to create a new system that prioritizes the well-being and fulfillment of individuals rather than solely focusing on profit and growth.

with all respect, just before this, I was watching a lecture on TedX by a professor in NJ, stating that long-term employment is not the cause of lack of skills or education or experience, but a major factor is HIDDEN job posts which are 80%. those are defined as not posted!, already filled!, or gotten by networking and narrow relationships!. universities are originally places of knowledge not technical training or tailoring factory for employers. how can an employer accuse a fresher of being a fresher!? total nonsense. The major issue is the violent capitalism of greedy enterprises and employers who want to maximize profit by less employees and downsizing, regardless of any responsibility or understanding how they ruin their revenues doing so.

It's supply and demand or Adam Smith's "magic hand". There is only so many jobs; there are only so many goods; their are only so much resources that can be distributed equally. What is needed is new ideas on how to do things to develop new products to deliver to markets. 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration and hard work! eg. New types of electric cars, new types of rockets, new types of food, new types of energy, new types of houses etc and scale them up through Ford's automation system. At one point in time there was one really expensive light bulb till everybody thought they need light bulbs to replace candles. It takes time and effort for an idea to be realised into existence into the universe!

Unintentionally, though it is the matter of fact, one thing you have indicated that highest marks/percentage is the proof of hard working.
