We use a filter needle, which is designed to filter out the glass. The filter needle is removed and discarded and replaced with a regular needle.

If a nurse is allowed to have those nails, at work. That would be question.

When making ampules high pressure is maintained inside the ampule. So once it breaks the pressure releases. That technique is used to prevent getting small glass pieces inside the bottle. So don't worry. 😊

Theres also a small saw to use so it snaps easier ! Its an art 🎨 like anything. Its pladtic now, mostly.

You take a cotton swab, wrap the tip of the ampule, and snap it, thus protecting your thumb and preventing glass shards from going all over the bedside table, your computer on wheels, etc. You then use a filter needle to pull up the med, then discard the filter needle. Administer med (IV, IM, whatever) with a new appropriate needle (or into the line if needle less).. And I split my thumb open popping one of those ampules doing it the way they did it in the video.

Common Sense would tell you that, even on the first day they invented it. Tiny bits of glass will get into everything. And then they were like oh well

First of all, you don’t flick it to open; it’s flicked gently to help the remaining liquid from the head of the ampoule flow to the bottom. Then use 2x2 gauze to break it gently. After that, use a filter needle to extract the liquid from the ampoule.

Tilt it than break, most of Indian Nurses follow the same

There are still many meds that only come in ampules. They suck. There's no reason for them when vials are a readily available option. I'm seen people need stitches from cutting themselves on them.

People need to be mindful some places dont have filter needles so they dont have much options

Use a filter needle. After drawing up the medication remove the filter needle. Then use the appropriate needle.
