Busy TypeScript Developer’s Guide to Advanced TypeScript | Ted Neward

TypeScript is mostly known for being a strongly-typed JavaScript. While this is certainly a viable view of the language, it ignores the view that TypeScript has a unique place among languages, that of being strongly-typed on top of a weakly/untyped platform. This enables TypeScript to do some language syntax and implementation that would be difficult, if not impossible, to do in traditional strongly-typed languages. In this session, we will explore some of these language features, see how we can design with them, and explore the beauty that is TypeScript on its own.

Conditional types enable typescript to start looking like black magic. The currying example clearly shows how convoluted and difficult to understand this can become.

Missed some features like method/function overloading, it's one of the most misunderstood features.

Typescript is really comfortable and it's definitely an improvement for huge projects. Nevertheless in my opinion it's not surprising Microsoft invented Typescript. They never understood the web and Javascript ("A bowser is a simple piece of software"). They want to force a prototype based language into the shape of an object oriented (sadly ES goes the same way). This is leading to the fact that developers don't understand their code on their websites anymore. Typescript is exactly what I expect from a C# developer when he should improve JS after working with it the first time.

Me: Look at all those Java developers, they're so old... Java is so old...
Convention Manager: They're all 25 years old

I find it ironic that he is castigating the phone as he is happily explaining generics.

People in Tech love to make smart ass comments about America. Resentment seems to permeate the industry. Kind of ironic.
