I find it amusing when people say "You'll both be cut in a knife fight". While this is often the case, youll also get cut if you have a gun. If a crazed lunatic with a knife attacks you and you shoot him, do people think the figut is magically ended? A bullet doesnt necessarily stop every fight. I saw on dash cam a cop shoot a guy like 9 times and he still attacked the cop with a knife. All 9 shots hit too.

You are very right about knives in self defence. Some 20 years ago I have been attacked by a pack of wild dogs in Africa and I kept them at bay and made them flee charging them with a knife in hand. Since then I always carry an edge weapon with me when I go outdoor. In reality having a knife is acknowledging anything can happen in this unpredictable life

Pistol, blade, pepper spray. Why the pepper? Because it allows me to start the party. I’ll never attack anyone. As soon as I feel threatened I’m spraying and opening distance.

Found ya 😎👊 This man trains like a champion and is full of common sense and wisdom... I was once in a knife fight many many years ago and I ended up with the knife in my left arm/ shoulder ... I considered myself extremely lucky... I pray to God I never have to go through something like that again... I'm always carrying a knife...usually 2... I've learned alot listening and watching you...Keep up the great work 💯👊👊👊😎

First, I want to say that your commentary at the beginning of the video was spot on. No one, wants to get in a knife fight. They say no one wins a knife fight and I believe it. I also know how much people fear the thought of being cut in combat. I share that fear. I literally would rather take a bullet then a deep cut or stabbing. Anyway I just wanted to add two things, and I have to say I chuckled when you showed your Kyoto... My recommendations are twofold first will not very concealable due to length, the Glock knife. It's not fancy, it doesn't look all Tacticool, but it is an excellent $35 solution. The next that I recommend wholeheartedly, and literally suggest that if you consider the possibility of needing a blade in self-defense, the cold steel mini leatherneck double-sided dagger is $20. It's concealable with only a 4-in blade, and in my mind, the perfect carry weapon. The double edge allows swipes and swings to bite regardless of the direction. The finger guard protects your hand from sliding forward if hitting bone, and the rubber grip allows a firm solid grip even if wet. I don't ever want to use one in that way, but like you said guns can fail or run out of bullets. A blade is forever. Thank you for another excellent video.

One rule I learned, everyone is gonna get cut in a knife fight. Everyone. You are right, it is an up close and personal business.

The short k-bar is a good combat knife. The blade is long enough to penetrate the three or four inches to reach the vital organs, heart, lungs, etc.

I love how you talk about knife combat with such a soothing and relaxing tone 😜.

Personally i think a combat/fighting knife should be 6 inches at least, good grip and a guard of sorts is a must. I personally feel a knife should be your last line of defence. Get a gun, have your knife as a backup. Knives dont jam, they dont make noise etc. What's the saying, "Guns for show, knives for a pro". Take up classes, learn all you can about it. I heard someone said generally with knife fights, you either die there on the spot, or later on at the hospital. So learn proper techniques and always avoid a fight if you can.

Also, another great vid Dan, appreciate it.

I'm 79 years old and I'm sure not going to be running anywhere very fast. I'll have to settle for some other option. 😅

When i was in Alaska a man fended off a black bear attacking his cocker spaniel with a Buck 110 folding knife. All survived, but all were injured in the fight.

I agree any fighting or defensive blade must absolutely have a good guard

I love how you're unapologetically into combat knives and their usefulness. So many knife guys balk and bleat that they aren't knife fighting ninjas or something about tacticool, when even approached with the idea of combat knives. Or better yet, they'll often say "My favorite knife for fighting is a Glock yadda yadda".

It's almost a reflex action from the community and how they downplay tactical/combat knives. My hyper blessed brothers here in the States tend to forget that the world isn't their neighborhood. Not everyone is strapped with a big iron on their hip and not everyone is opening Amazon packages with their high-speed steel Spyderco. Anyway, thank you for not being another drop point, coke bottle handle, feather-sticking only guy who's embarrassed to approach said topic. Appreciate that.

A small "clinch pick" type knife is also good in addition to hg, blade, and spray. Great video, I like that EDC tonto, sweet. Been going through all my kits and seems that many genres I search, you often come up. I'm not stalking, lol. If I see you on the list I always want to know what you have to say. I like your calm presentation style. Between you, Gideon's Tactical, and Doc at Last Best Tool, ... y'all keeping me working part time in my retirement, lol. You are the only one of the three with a proper haircut. Na, I got to work a day or two every week so I don't forget how to drive.

I usually carry my mini leatherneck double edge basically a dagger. Compact, lightweight, razor sharp and goes through clothes light butter by far my favorite combat knife

I'm a street fighter and bar fighter and never carried a knife. I was stabbed 9 times in the chest and I lived in a house fight and ever since I have carried a knife and trained with several different types. I now carry at least two blades on me at all times and always concealed. And I've found the perfect boot knife from M Tech .

Very informative video on knife defence. I like your wise and peaceful approach to the subject.
Regarding the implements, you said on the video that you didn't like folders, but you should check the folding dagger Samson Adimanti. It ticks many boxes in the self-defence/combat area and it is sturdy as a fixed blade.

Okay, got a new knife that was made by Cold Steel, specially for self defense. It is the Cold Steel Espada XL, in G10 scales. It is a folding knife, with a 7.5 inch blade. It has the Triad lock which is so strong, you will break the knife, before you break the lock. Even Lynn Thompson calls the Espada a Fighting knife. And since it does fit in my pocket, no one knows you have it. And yes it does fit in my pocket. I have a Cold Steel 1917 Frontier Bowie, I'd love to carry that, but with its 12 inch blade. Its a tad large to try and conceal.

A good knife that you can grip properly essentially turns your arm into a defensive spear.
