I agree that he should have waited, but it's not a rebranding. He has said that he wants twitter to be something like Wechat in China. He probably wants to do some integration with Space X and xAI, so Twitter won't be a social network much longer but the way you pay for services, buy things and many other things. X makes sense as it's the default mathematical sign for variables.
