Cearka recently underwent Gender Affirming Voice Surgery, or Vocal Feminization Surgery (VFS), performed by Dr. Mendelsohn. VFS is designed to increase the pitch of a person’s voice to better align with their true gender.

After VFS, patients work with a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to develop exercises that are tailored to each patient and their vocal needs. In this video, Cearka is demonstrating her resonant voice training to bring out her best voice, post-operatively.

At LACENTA, we perform VFS procedure, approached endoscopically through the mouth. Just like putting a capo on a guitar, the vibrating vocal cords are shortened so they naturally give off a higher vocal pitch in order to achieve our gender affirming goals.
