It's not broken, so don't try to "fix" it

Fun fact about the east German anthem, it was made so that it's lyrics and the lyrics of the original anthem could be interchangeable, i think you can even find them swapped on YouTube.

Get out of guilt.

The British do not accept their guilt
The Turks still refuse to accept the Armenian Genocide.
You have accepted your guilt, learnt from it. Now move on.

Reclaim your original national anthem. Be proud of your history. Don't let a 12-year stint ruin your country's history and heritage.

It should be mentioned here that the German word "nationalist" is quite different from the English word "nationalist" which has the same sound. The reasons for this are well explained in the video.

It’s such a catchy tune. I wonder why German says fatherland where other languages say motherland 🤔

German national anthem is just beautiful. Don't change it. I believe nowadays nobody would feel offended by the first verses. But if they are not happy with them... it's their national anthem, they can sing what they want.

Proposition for a replacement: The old East German Anthem. It's not blatantly communist, so it could work.

After WW2 between 1946 & 1949 Germany had an anthem called: "Trizonesien-Song"

The current words - 'Einigheit und Recht und Freiheit' - are a marvellous celebration of all that's good and admirable in the liberal democracies.

Depends, what one do you want to hear, and which part of it. For example, I could start singing *heil dir Im siegerkranz, herscherr des vaterland, heil Kaiser dir! Fuhl in des thrones glanz, die hohhe wonne ganz. Leibling des volks su sein, heil Kaiser dir!* and technically I wouldn’t be wrong

Absilutely ridiculous that Germany "cant" use the first verse because it was the once Nazis used. Nazis used many military marches that are still used today like "Preussen Gloria" and "Köninggrätz March. A German has right to feel proud of being German, like American is proud of being American, Russian proud of being Russian, Brit proud of being British etc

I'm not a big fan of the whole Eastern Block/Iron Curtin, or of Communism as a whole, however from a musical standpoint, the East German Anthem sounds like a masterpiece of an anthem.

Don’t really care about the lyrics that much but I feel the tune and melody of the Deutschland lied fits better in its original format “Gott Erhalte Fran’s der Kaiser”. “Auferstanten aus Ruinen” feels like a perfect blend of Prussian and Rhinelander cultures but idk.

Yeah but the Nazis had a Co-anthem so there was no point in changing the first two words in the "deutschlandlied" anthem

The original 3-verse version, understood in its historical context, seems unobjectionable.
