I would not trust other people driving my car.

Why not get together with one or more friends/relatives/colleagues, buy a car, and share the costs? That cuts your costs in half, at least, and you don't have to deal with strangers. You would have independent driving times, and carpooling times. It could work. Still, as soon as one person shows that they lack integrity, the whole thing goes kablooey.
