The Trump administration has put Europe on edge---laser focus on ending the war in Ukraine without much regard for the circumstances, never-ending tariff policies, and threats to abandon the continent. Such moves come with substantial costs, though. Today, we look at ten things that the United States could lose by pursuing these policies.

Germany just published a travel warning for the US since recently a bunch of german tourists got jailed while they tried to enter the country, were held for weeks (they would be back in Germany by that time anyways), some had to sleep on concrete floor, the german embassy wasn't allowed to offer propper support etc. It seems there is a real shit show on the US border waiting for european tourists.

The video starts by saying this issue is overblown, but honestly I think it's being underplayed by European leaders and the media at large. Americans are too far detached from the war in Europe to understand how serious Trump's statements are taken. Americans might brush off these statements and say "he's not serious" or "nothing will happen", but sorry, the threats have been made, the damage is done. The US-EU relationship is not going back to normal after 4 years.

Dutch proverb: trust arrives on foot and leaves on horseback. The damage Trump has caused in just a month, will set the U.S. back for years, perhaps even decades.

I've never felt Europe so strong and united, and the number of messages from all parts of our beautiful continent, from people who are proud to be European, brings me great joy.

America is already losing Europe, but I think some of the media dialogue over this is missing something. It’s not just a divorce, it’s like a divorce where the couple has a bunch of children together and so they are forced to try to stay on good terms when possible, all while seeking out alternative partners and life paths on their own.

We are past the point of “if”:
1) the rules for the EU defense fund specifically exclude US purchases
2) The travel guidance for the US in Germany, UK and France now carry warnings

And so on

As for "overblown", Trump has been called a traitor in French parliament a few years ago. European politics is quite restrained and full of pleasantries even if something big and bad is happening, so what you witness now is a megastorm I haven't seen in 40 years of my life. From my perspective as a Pole, if a Polish politician says about USA what's been said in last weeks by our PM, it's bad. Like really really bad because Poland was in a very close relationship with USA since 1776 when two our commanders fought for the American independence (Kosciusko & Pułaski, both recruited by Benjamin Franklin). Many European leaders use a very soft language, but they are pissed all right.

I am from the UK and to be honest i jsut want a complete disengagement from the US and a closer relationship with Europe. We just do not share the values of america. this has been true for a very long time really but in the wake of Trump, it is shockingly clear.

The erosion of 80 years soft power in just 30 days just shows the fragility and nuance needed in today's global politics

You know, you watch those videos of Americans unable to point Ukraine or Iraq or even their own country on a map and think to yourself, "ah, that's funny. A bit sad."

And then 2025 rolls around and you realize, "wow, these are the people voting in the government of the most powerful nation in the world, " and suddenly, Trump makes a lot more sense.

"What does the US lose if it loses Europe" Its global hegemony. The US is dependant on its alliances for its global hegemony, contrary to popular belief.

You are forgetting the constant talk of Canada losing it's sovereignty... if there was ever a need for the rally-round-the-flag affect.. its when a countries' sovereignty is called into question.

As a long long time supporter of all things US. Here in the UK am seeing grassroots boycotts of US products. Not talking Tesla … talking people checking baths salts and clothes etc to make sure it isn’t made in US. This is something completely new to me. Never seen this before.

Scary times.

About military budget of Europe, i always felt like the US complaining of Europe not spending enough was about "buy more of our weapons". If the Europe rearemement budget ever happened to end up in american hands, i'd be very disappointed. It's time we move away from them for good. And i think military is only the top of the iceberg. The real deal here is to step away from their technologic monopoly (media, gafa (yes, youtube) and other technologies)."

Also, blaming Trump for it is kind of irrelevant. This has been coming for decades due to US behaviour. Trump just happens to be the funny tv show host in charge at the moment.

I am a dual U.S. and Italian citizen, living in the E.U. If it comes to it, and I have to choose one citizenship over the other, I'm a European, supporting the E.U., Canada, Greenland, and Panama against fascist agression.

0:46 Overblown? We talk of little else here in Stockholm. I'd say American media hasn't even scratched the surface of what's happening here.

I was told to produce a list by top management of the company i work at with 21.000 employees. The list was of our US owned suppliers, and the intent is for the finance department to see if they can replace them with european substitutes. The boycott is already happening without politicians involvement. I am also seeing grassroot boycotts happening by consumers, phasing out anything american for local produce.

Central Europe (former vassal states of the USSR) learned this lesson 80 years ago. Tehran and then Yalta. Ukraine and the rest of the West are learning it now. After the fall of the USSR, Poland was the most pro-American country in Europe. But as the proverb says „fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me” …
those days are gone.
