Slipknot does sound like Slipknot but when I hear Iron Maiden I don't think Iron Maiden the genre

But he speaks facts, I mean, I can immediately tell when someone is playing Slipknot

Nobody cares about what I think, but I heard these dudes in '99 and they were a breath of fresh air to me. Slipknot was doing actual "metal" when boring bands like Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit were the bands on the top doing that boring mid-tempo shit. These guys were crushing it and nobody could touch them!

I consider Slipknot more of an Alternative Metal band rather than a Nu Metal band:

Their first album was the most Nu Metal album because they used a lot of rap/hip hop elements, with their unique touch of extreme metal.

In Iowa they went a bit outside of the Nu Metal umbrella, intensifying the Death/Thrash/Groove Metal influences that were already on the first record, with Nu Metal still being predominant.

In Subliminal verses was when they got further from Nu Metal. SV leans more to Alternative Metal territory but the Nu Metal influence/vibe is still evident

All Hope is Gone is probably their least Nu Metal and most experimental album. They went to a Thrash/Groove Metal direction with songs like Gematria, All Hope is Gone, This Cold Black, etc. And even some Doom and slower songs like Gehenna. Also Hard Rock with Dead Memories.

In Gray Chapter Slipknot still follows a similar approach, but more darker as this was the first album without Joey and Paul, giving that sad and melancholic feeling to it.

In Wanyk they experiment more with the electronic elements, so it has an Industrial touch in some parts.
Obviously, they never abandoned the Nu Metal feeling or influence completely but Slipknot nowadays leans more to Alternative Metal,
But ITS MY OPINION SO..

Edit: Corrected many orthographic errors lol
Also, changed some of my stances because I changed my opinion quite a bit 👌

It may not be NU-Metal now, but it was.

It's refreshing to hear someone talk honestly about Nu-metal without instantly bashing it and getting defensive. I'm not afraid to admit that I loved it back in the day and lately it's developed a bit of a nostalgic quality to me. And he's totally right when he says the best bands from that era ended up doing a lot of creative experimenting. Far too many people act like it was the worst thing to ever happen to music and it really wasn't...

The same is with System of a Down. It feels like they have their own genre too

Never understood why labeling is so important to people.

2:56 he makes such a good point. When they played Left Behind this year so many people started leaving the show. I'm glad they didn't play a "Greatest Hits" set list, but a good portion of the crowd didn't know the older songs and didn't get into it.

Slipknot is as metal as they come from the sound to their stage performances. And he's kinda right. They dont fit one genre, I dont think any band does anymore simply because people have come up with so many genres to describe bands that doing something that isnt PURELY metal will get put into Nu-Metal or Metalcore and if a bands strays from being *Metalcore* they get put into something different. Its dumb EDIT:I dont think Slipknot are some extra special band that deserve their own genre, im saying that Slipknot as a whole cannot be lumped into one genre

I fucking love nu metal. No shame in that whatsoever.

Love Corey Taylor. Fans still appreciate it when you do requests. I saw Slipknot 6 times before I finally got to see "My Plague" live.

literally every time I hear Slipknot (and I've never heard the song) I immediately hear and say holy shit that's Slipknot. You guys really do have your own sound. Your music and Stone Sour's music is, to me, timeless and I will never get enough of it.
p.s. The "I'm not jesus" song with Apocalyptica is my new favorite (I know I'm late) along with "The devil in I".

Hope you all see this message.
