Thank you for mentioning long haul covid and people becoming disabled due to covid. It is very rare to hear anyone talking about this. I caught covid at work in January 2022 and I am still struggling to recover. I had to give up my job of 24 years which I loved. I had to leave my home of 34 years and move in with my son in a different state because since I can't work I can no longer support myself. I've been denied workers comp, even tho I have witnesses that that can testify that I got covid at work. I went through all my sick pay, my vacation time, personal necessity time. I'm about to retire 5 years earlier than planned because I'm broke and out of resources. And now I hear the pandemic is "over". So now myself and others like me will be ignored even more. So it's nice to at least hear it mentioned, though I doubt anyone listening will care about the plight of long haul covid sufferers

Just had covid last week, 12 hours the worst was over. Shivers for a couple hours then sweating and headache for 6 or 7 hours. Then you just felt tired and had to rest. I have had worse flu many times. 3 days it was all but done.

As someone who is two weeks into Covid, get vaccinated! This is no joke. I'm vaxed and boosted and it still got me.
And there is a 2-4 day delay between symptoms and a positive test so wear a mask. The shedding period is those first few days so masking matters!!

It’s coming up on a year since I got the base booster. I’ve been holding out for my local health department to offer the bi-valent booster but they either still don’t have it or won’t give it.

I finally found a box of N95s at a hardware store, but they were so expensive that it’s hard to justify using them for routine activities (and with my beard it’s not like I’d get a good seal anyway) so I continue to use the cloth masks (better than nothing). They are the kind with insert pockets for filters, but no one has any filter inserts!

I was finally able to stock up on at home tests through the post office, but most of them expire in November (I’m typing this on Oct 27th).

About a week or two ago this county had the highest per capita case count in the state and for most of the last 2 years it has had the fourth lowest vaccination rate - today still less than 50% (and that’s just the base vaccination, not even the boosted rate) - and the three lower rate counties are all much smaller counties.

We (the USA) have F’d up the COVID response from the beginning and we absolutely continue to do so. Aren’t we supposed to be a 1st world country? WT absolute F?
