When walking about a city or other venue in which one might not want to change lenses the focal lengths on the lens makes a perfect kit on this camera..

Six years later in 3/2025 Canon is still selling the same lens which is a testament to how good and versatile it is. It an ideal FL range for photo journalism and portraiture. With the introduction of the RF10-20mm f/4 and RF 100-500mm in 2024 it is the perfect “Mama Bear” in a “Goldilocks” photo journalism “Holy Trinity” 😊

Is this the walking around lens to have if you own an R6 or R5? The lens you bring along when you go to the water park with the grandchildren? That sort of thing? I have the RF 15-35 2.8, and the RF 100-500. I'd like to have something to use as an all rounder.

I own 6 lenses and have used maybe 20 in total on different cameras - this range is by far my favorite. If anyone make a weather sealed, stabilized f/2.8 version, the majority of people can live with a single lens in their life. Maybe this is why we don't have it ;)

It probably won't be on their road map for a while, but I can't wait until Canon release their replacements for the 16-35mm f/4 and 70-200 f/4 for an overall lightweight landscape setup along with some specialty primes. Seeing how compact the upcoming 70-200mm f/2.8 is a promising sign.

Thank you for great reviews. I currently have a R8, and 2 prime lenses. 35mm F1.8 and 50mm F1.8 nifty fifty. Really pleased with the results. I am thinking of getting this zoom as an all rounder. If setting either of these two prime lenses to say, F4, and match all settings to the zoom lens at the same focal length, which lens is likely to give the better image quality? The primes or the L zoom lens?

Thank you, Dustin, I will change my gear, and, coming from Nikon, I wonder if I should go for the Canon or the Sony 24/105 (as it is the lens that makes the image, I consider the lens before considering the camara). Is there any noticeable difference? Thank you! 👍

I ended up returning this lens due to its lack of sharpness, but it was alright. If I did more video I would have kept it
