once you learn takato's ko uchi, it becomes mindblowing and works 9 out of 10 times. Since i started practicing and applying it, i feel more confident using this technique with every use. Takato's kouchi is one of my tokiu waza nowadays

The impulse back step, like a sprinter's back leg at the start of a race, is the key to so many movements in judo. You'll start seeing it everywhere if you look closely

Awesome type of video and also getting takato to answer to you. More videos like this, discussing technical and tactical aspects of judo

Kouchi gari is the ashi waza I always have some problems with, despite being one of the first techniques you learn and teach, it has so many details that you are always re checking stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Some of Suzuki's attacks might be classified more as a gake than gari. Either way, they're vicious!

1:14 being a wazari instead of ippon is criminal

Takato also uses a gake rather than a gari, so this would be a key difference between his and Suzuki's?

I had a question tho. Takato kouchi similar to an changrim and abe looks like the reaping foot plants on the mat with their heel and they kind of hook the foot. When I try to do this the best case is i make my uke stumble in randori but since I put all my weight on my reaping leg I can't lift my foot when my opponent tries to unhook. Am I missing something?

Your voiceover runs over itself early on in the video. Great video though!
