Return to Monkey Island is an unexpected, thrilling return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story of the legendary adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.

It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’.

Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership. Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments. Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory.

Honestly, I find this art style absolutely hideous, but that’s not why I play these games, so I’m just happy we’re getting more Monkey Island.

I just knew it was too good to be true. :( Those graphics are so devoid of character. Looks more like a mobile phone or web game than Monkey Island.

Monkey island 3 really did have the perfect art and vibe.

Im not sold on the art style yet but if the story and writing are good and not "current year" stuff then I will certainly buy it.

"Gameplay Reveal"... so where is the gameplay? i only see animations without any context? Is it even an Adventure game? The art is one side, but if this isnt even a point and click Adventure but more like a "guide your character with your Gamepad and press x to use your sword and press y to interact action game". Its not my genre anymore.

I really like the art style. It’s fresh yet still captures a lot of the original essence. The “broader strokes” sparks my imagination to fill in details and gives it a similar mystique that I always loved about pixel art. I’m sure it’ll feel even better when we’re actually playing it too.

I'm undecided on the art style, but the gameplay looks really good. Guess I was hoping for something more along the lines of Curse Of Monkey Island.

I guess I have two issues with the art - it looks too much like things I've seen before many times, and it's just... not that high quality/detail.

I'm not expecting a masterpiece but like, Monkey Island 3 looked pretty cool for example.

If it were me I'd smooth off those harsh edges, add a bunch of detail and maybe change the faces.
