You should have the range established or an approximate number before even going in. Your recruiter should provide it, the job posting should provide it, or if you’re in that industry you should already know it.

Good negotiating is key! Before & during employment. It sucks that people like me, who lack negotiation skills/assertiveness, get paid less because of it. Being kind & wanting fairness = being taken advantage of with more work & less pay. That’s why those at the top want us desperate (insecure, ignorant, reserved, etc). It’s hard to negotiate when most people applying for jobs are desperate for work.
