How to make a Woodworking Workbench out of only 2x4's

This is how I built a massive workbench for my garage shop for under $100 using only 2x4’s and wood glue (and a few screws).

Final dimensions of workbench:
Top: 27 ½” x 71 ½” x 3 3/8”
Legs: 31 ½” x 3 ¼” x 4”
Skirt runner: 4 boards at 4’, and 4 boards at 23 ¾” (runners are located directly under the top and at 6" off the ground)

Here’s the basic cut list:
21 boards at 6’
4 boards at 4’
4 boards at 23 ¾”
8 boards at 31 ½” (ran out of boards, so since this was for the legs I took some of my leftover boards from the off-cuts on the 6’ sections and used those to sandwich things together to make up a leg post that was 31 ½” long).

Items used:
2x4's - 26 8' boards
Tightbond II wood glue - 2 1/2 bottles
A few screws

Miter saw, Tablesaw, Drill and countersink bit, orbital sander (and sandpaper)

Small trick I learned recently. Use a smaller quick clamp to do all squeezing for your glue bottles. Makes life a lot easier 😁

Even though it's just a cheap workbench it's something that be handed down to your kids kids.

Sadly, on a small island (Tasmania), this workbench would cost around $300 with plain old construction pine, and upwards of $500 in oak. My only criticism is I don't live where timber is cheap. Great tutorial. Thankyou. $0.02

nice built, but that wood costs 3-4 times more here in Europe 🙄. So we gotta build our benches with half of the resources to have a reasonable price 😎
