Fragrances reflect the culture of the time. Nowadays the culture is very soft, middle of the road, don't wanna offend anyone. So the fragrances are mostly people pleasers, you don't hate them but you don't love them either. The 80's was still pretty rough and tough, so fragrances made bold statements.

So cool! Love looking back at old but good fragrances. And yes, in the 80's, tennis was king and so many cool iconic tennis players then. Golf was going crazy too!

Another excellent review.
I also think that the Boss No.1 is a great one!

Great line up. I grew up with all these frags. My number one Boss is still Boss Bottled though, but I loved Spirit and Elements too. The green sport back then was pretty mainstream in Denmark. I could buy the Boss Sport in supermarkets in the early 90's in Copenhagen. A fragrance I still like to this day, is Boss No.1. I think I prefer it slightly over Spirit. Just brings back memories from a trip to Paris with my class in 1986 where I had a crush on this girl. No.1 is a strong tobacco fragrance, that maybe not was that well suited for a teen boy, but I still loved it. My Boss top 5: 1. Bottled, 2. No.1, 3. Elements, 4. Spirit, 5. Elements Aqua. Honorable mention: Boss Sport. Cheers, Claus

My bottle of Elements arrived this afternoon so I applied it when I arrived home from work. I like it! For some reason I was expecting more of an 80s powerhouse type scent, but Elements is definitely more well-behaved, smooth and gentlemanly, and it has a timeless quality to it so it can be worn by anyone for any reason. To be honest, it's hard to describe this scent...I just went back and watched your review of this fragrance again and I can sense what you're talking about when you mentioned it having all the elements of the earth. Anyway, I look forward to wearing this one in the coming weeks, for sure!

Chris, very nice selection of classic Boss fragrances of and informative review of each. I think your bottle of Boss Sport is a splash cologne and not an EDT? My personal favorite from the Hugo Boss house of the 80's is original BOSS (the one without the 'Number One' on the bottle). It's the perfect suit scent IMO. Now it's called 'Boss Number One' which. shares similar notes but the original is much higher quality.

Thanks for the list and for bringing forward some hard to find fragrances. I'm a big tennis fan and love green scents, so I'll have to be on the lookout for Boss Sport. Love how green the bottle is.

My God I weep when I think of what has happened to fragrances over the last 25 years... especially over the last 20 years. Hugo Boss was, in my book at the time, a cologne I aspired to own but never quite had the bank account to actually purchase. I did receive in 1994 a Boss Elements gift set and I was forever a fan but I was also ignorant of what was to come for Hugo Boss. I have just recently acquired a bottle (based in part on your review and partly of my memory of its release), new in the box, of Hugo Boss Spirit and man did I totally miss the train on that one! Your description of sunshine in a bottle from the 80s is spot-on. I'm reminded that at that time, within just one year, the Berlin Wall would come down... in just a couple of years, Tiananmen Square would take place... It was a harbinger of things to come in some strange philosophical cosmic way. It is absolutely my signature scent and I will purchase more bottles for backup. They are not inexpensive but they can still be found somewhat, and I will purchase as many as I can as they will only become harder and harder to find and subsequently will be extremely extremely expensive. Thank you!! You are so correct in that nostalgia has nothing to do with it. A great fragrance rises above the temporal and anchors its olfactory pleasures in the eternal.

I have miniatures of the 3. To me, I find Boss Sport very Soapy, very nice. I find it close to Lacoste Pour Homme (the 1984 version).

Love these old school reviews and totally agree with you. So very hard to find any of these now days. Today here in Perth it's going to be 34 Celsius followed by 41 tomorrow 😓 so Kenzo PH today and Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian lime tomorrow, super refreshing scent. Grazie .

Very interesting choices. You know, I picked-up Boss Bottled and Boss Intense and lost my desire to try any more of their fragrances. But I've heard great things about their old-school scents and would live to put my nose on them. Would love to put my nose on these three...

I recently got into Hugo by Hugo Boss, the 95 release.. wow, still smells amazing and still smells modern and in fact smells better than the freshies created today. But then again so does Le Male, still slays in 2021.

I found that many fragrances you suggested are quite rare in market. How can you keep them in stock? I mean did you buy many backup bottles?
