FrSky Taranis X9D Plus 'Mr Steele' Special Edition

Hey mate! Isn't the included adapter used to convert our usual RP-SMA antennas to SMA, in order to fit on the mrSteele X9D Tx? I thought that the mrSteele edition comes with an SMA connector and an SMA antenna (instead of RP-SMA as in the SE version).

Steele even said the special edition plus is the same thing just without his logo and stuff.. still has upgrades for the most part.. :)

Sure wish I would have picked one of these up when they were available, really like the color scheme. Ended up getting a carbon print SE when my old X9D died but so wish I would have pulled the trigger on this one. Nice review

It looks so much better without the stickers for sure, and the stock switches on the taranis suck they are hollow and break off constantly after a good amount of flips. For 70 it's honestly worth it with all the upgrades it comes with especially the sma mod which is a nice upgrade for sure :)

I bought the 'carbon fibre' version of the SE at Christmas. Obviously it's a different colour, the upgraded switches don't have the silicon sleeves and there's no stand. But otherwise it's the same thing, so you're paying £70 extra to have Steele's name on it.

I always appreciate your frank observations. Please forgive me if the follow has been addressed but is there a way you could do a video that shows how to upgrade the firmware in such a way as to NOT screw with ones setting i.e. "Amber". The last time I tried to upgrade I could not use Amber call outs so I just gave up!

Steele was one of the first people I watched on YouTube doing quad stuff. If you paid yourself time and bought the upgrades then his price makes sense from a time invested point of view. I like the color. I won’t be purchasing the radio but I know he has enough fans and the mods are logical in my opinion that they will be bought. The antenna mod has been responsible for damaging many radios. This insures that someone wanting the mod won’t be buying a second radio because they screwed up.

Nice upgrade! Some interesting options. Do you know if it is possible to put the SMA antenna connector over earlier regular edition of the X9D+?

Seems great. But my qx7 serves me nicely. The only thing missing is a nice case for it.

The selection buttons (along the screen) on my Taranis continue to come loose requiring me to open the case and re-attach them. Has any thing been done to beef up these buttons on this version? Thanks for the great review.

All that extra money and what you're actually getting is just some nice gimbals, the antenna mod and some fancy aesthetics. They didn't even bundle in a decent battery and the fact that they put the bloody thing together without the stickers on is laughable. So much for it coming with "all the mods that he'd do anyways". Don't get me wrong, I like steele and his vids but christ this is some fanboy exploitation. I'll stick with my regular taranis and keep making it to how I want it. Then it's not 1 of 500, it's 1 of 1 lol.

My old X9D+ doesn't have the Hall Effect gimbals and is still running Open TX v2.0.9, which is what it came with about 5 yrs ago. Still works great, but I did break off the momentary toggle (trainer) switch on the top right when it slid off my car seat, out the door and onto the pavement. Felt gutted at the time, but, since I never use that switch, I've gotten over it. Not sure that this version is worth an extra $150 over a 'plain Jane' version .. all up to the buyer I guess.
