The energy crisis in the world could have been resolved if we knew how to make our own little sun on earth. But that happens only in movies and Marvel comics. Actually, no. Controlled nuclear fusion is today the biggest scientific project of the 21st century that is under way, and will change the world as we know it. However, among many problems that can affect the art of the impossible, certain "processes" inside this reactor are known to seriously deteriorate the efficiency of the reactor and damage it. Do we understand these processes? Can they be avoided, or the reactor design improved to withstand them? This talk shall introduce conceptually the overarching theme of controlled nuclear fusion, and the analytical framework that is used to study the troublesome reactor "processes".
