I actually would be interested in the Rogue if it were built in Japan. My Japan built 2009 Murano is still on its original CVT has been very reliable with transmission oil changes every 30k miles.

I’ve worked at this plant since 2011. It’s sad we are seeing this happen. The bad part is that we are hearing this from you and not our employer right now. We did get a raise because of the UAW but I’d gladly go back to what I was making to keep the plant open.

If Nissan is seeing these situations then GM, Toyota, Honda, Ford as well other industries are seeing the same economics.

This is good for consumers because as you mention, Japanese build quality is superior. And if you look on lots, several trims have both American and Japanese-built VINs, not just the Platinum. Is this move bad for American autoworkers? Sure, but what do you want us to say? American build quality has gone downhill since the late 70s. Is it poor oversight? inferior skills? People not caring about their jobs? Could be all of the above. The fact is that people work hard for their money, and naturally want to get the best products they can for that money - in this scenario it's the Japanese-built Rogue.

Really liked the quality of the rogue rental car I just had. Hope the US workers would be able to find other employment, but I also want Nissan to make the financial decisions to be able to stay afloat and continue to provide American and Japanese jobs in the future.

Us, Americans, want top shelf quality while making the least amount of effort to give such top quality ourselves. All domestic auto makers are evidence of that! Cheap, not durable, expensive, and with no pride

Sounds like the future for some Japanese manufacturers is most if not all EV production for global market from US and Europe and global ice vehicle production from Japan and other non North American and European countries… that recent Akio Toyoda speech at the Auto Salon certainly was focused around protecting jobs for Japanese and other Asian workers etc so makes sense to bring most if not all global ice production from Europe and North America back

This is exactly what I knew would happen when the Detroit 3 got their new contract. Honda and Toyota have already agreed to give their associates large raises in the last couple of months. It just makes the prices go up even higher.

All Nissan has to do is make their cars with CVTs more reliable, even if they are incompetent enough that they couldn’t improve their transmissions when Toyota and Honda use CVTs and they’re fine.

It’s crazy because conventional wisdom is J vin cars are generally more expensive to produce.

I’m personally looking forward to the new Kicks.

I don’t understand why Nissan makes the Murano. It seems like they could make the Rogue better if they discontinued the former and focused on the latter.

I don’t want to blame them for this, business is business…

I just got a notice from the Nissan dealer I actually liked and trusted for services that the Dealership owner is closing and no longer serving Nissan.

This is defiantly a bit unnerving even more so after watching this video. (Nissan Burlingame [Putnam Automotive Group])

This is why we need to get our costs lowered in this country.

As an owner of 2 Suburus (one is a 2023 Outback Touring), I rented a Rogue 2023 for a business trip and was amazed by the ride and quality. UI and specially cruise control setting sucks but otherwise much better than a Subaru.

Unintentional consequences of UAW victories

I work at Nissan in Smyrna on the Rogue line actually and we got a video last night at the start of shift denying everything. He said they talk with the people from Japan every day and there are no plans on moving and the Smyrna plant will not be shutting down.

Nissan just use cost of the parts as excuse, but the main reason is the UAW.
