The importance of understanding pawn breaks · Training Game

A rich strategic position in which both sides were aiming to gain an edge with a timely pawn break.

In the end we both got into time trouble, so the game became chaotic and we both made serious mistakes, but it was still very instructive. I missed key ideas at several points, and have a lot to learn from this one.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoy these slow (by YouTube standards) games as I can try to play along and understand what is happening. As always, keep teaching & keep inspiring.

These training games are GOLDEN... such instructive content!!
Reminds me of the old days of John Bartholomew doing his 15 min games on ICC forever and a day ago!!

These training games are my morning highlight. Your thought process/explanations and game analyses are terrific and easy to follow. I'm even learning to better think in coordinates (I'm admittedly a visual/arrows kinda guy). Thank you!👍🏻

Takebacks shouldn't be allowed in rated games. And you definitely shouldn't feel bad about your opponent losing the game because he has made bad move and proposed a takeback that you didn't accept.

You can disable takebacks. Highly recommended.

You did well by not giving him the takeback. From my experience, people who ask for takebacks, play dirty at every opportunity(usually). I had this same story many times: I give a takeback and in one of the next games against the same person, the guy plays R vs R trying to flag me and declines draw offer or something along those lines. As I said, I had this story numerous times. I still occasionally give a takeback (when it feels like it was a misclick), but It shouldn't be done

Your games are very instructional and also very amusing to follow along with on an engine.

Yea, i was thinking about king h8 instead of g7 because of the possible fork. But i didn't calculate, thought about it just as a safety measure

This dude is 200+ ICQ cause he knows when he explains something he has learned to others he actually understands it much better and improves his chess much faster.
His 1700 - 2000+ elo leap is just huge. Grats :)
I learned a lot. Thank you, I got from 700-800 to 1200-1300 in a year.

After Bxd5 Nxd5 (the "blunder") the Queen would be attacked so it doesn't work. Oh, you saw it later in the video :-)

32:22 Why exactly does Bxd5 work?
Isn't there just Nxd5 Ne6+ Kg8 (Might not be best just a king move) Nxf4 Nxc3 with you being up a piece for a pawn?

Edit: And in case of Bxd5 Nxd5 Qxc4 bxc4 Ne6+ Kg8 (Might not be best just a king move) Nxf4 Nxf4 you are still up a piece for a pawn but your pawn structure is messed up a bit more

I don't see why this move should work
