5-Axis V8 Engine Block. Less talk, more rock. In this video, we let the Haas VM3 do the talking. If you're familiar with the Business of Machining podcast, John Grimsmo and I discuss the importance of "spindle therapy." This project is about being in the moment and thoroughly enjoying the process. The end result is icing on the cake.
As we continue to learn and grow in our 5-Axis journey, so can you! Nothing is more awesome than being able to share this with you. So, kick back, relax, and enjoy!

Neat trick turning one cylinder into 8.

There's something very reassuring about the tool changer
Like a firm handshake
I know its ridiculous but still found it funny

Many moons ago I worked for a performance/custom speed company as a technical illustrator creating documentation for custom ultra precision engine, gearbox, supercharger and alloy wheel creations..they utilized only high end CNC/Alphanumeric machines.. everything was from billet.. the various components were very expensive..and works of art... watching this video brought back great memories..👍👍👍😊

Absolutely great how you let your intern "run with it", giving them freedom to think and come up with cool solutions (even if this is just for a show project)

Impressive!!! I used to program CNC machines over 25 to 30 years ago my 1st machine was a paper tape reader we moved to a 3.5 floppy disk and then to rewrite CDs. Then I got rifited after almost 15 years of prototyping. Now I do mechanical engineering. It was the best job I ever had. I put experiments into outer space that were successful. I made prototype medical devices and equipment and other things I can't talk about. I also did model making, injection molding, metallurgy, Mig, Tig, plasma, and complete wood working, to many other skills to list. That was the most fulfilling job that I ever had. The rest of my career has been boring in comparison, however it pays the bills.

These machines are awesome. When I was working I used to walk out to the Manufacturing floor and watch the huge Mazak Mill doing it's thing. It is mesmerizing for sure. The operator was sitting in a chair with his feet up on the machine sleeping.

You're such an inspiration for me!!
I just bought my first 3 axis milling machine from Dyna with Fagor CNC. I'm so excited to start 3D milling amazing products just like you do!!

Fantastic job on the block, without doubt. It would be quite the accomplishment to machine all the parts needed to complete a fully functional engine. The mind boggles on all the programming that would be involved. Thanks for the video.

That is beyond cool - would love to see this as an actual functioning V8

I’m very big into building and using 3D printers and your channel has literally raised my interest in CNC to an all time peak. I’m thinking about building a basic CNC to get me started thanks to you!

P.S. I live in queens NY so the name of your channel instantly caught my attention!

Life is so much easier using renishaw 🤓 I remember before we had them, manually setting x and y with a 5mm probe, setting heights with a 2inch probe and allowing for it in the offsets. These renishaw probes are a dream, select you program, g54, diameter z drop f4 and 2 and the jobs set already . So easy

People have done scale functioning engines before so it's definitely doable. There is definitely a market for that kind of thing in the rc\model worlds. People invest great deals of money into them. Great video.

So glad I found your channel. Since I purchased my 3d printer, installed a blue diode etc I decided to build my own DIY CNC. And your channel has answered many questions I didnt even know to ask. Thank you for all your knowledgeable content and experience.

That's awesome!! I need one of those, or a 1/5 scale LS7 for my RC.

Been a machinist for over a decade it’s nice to see people interested in the field. And that engine block is adorable 🥰

Is the lathe project still underway? Btw: AWESOME results on the V8. A tip: you most definitely want to line bore that crank journal before you hang a metal one in there and light the fire :)

Wtf this is the coolest shit I’ve ever seen, the way the bottom plate holding the piece moves with unreal precision is amazing

It will be amazing to see where you go with this engine block! A functional V8 would be amazing
