Wildflower & Pollinator Garden First Year Maintenance - Landscaper Know How ~ Good things happen to those who wait, well that is part of establishing a wildflower garden! We just think wildflower gardens are pretty! Native plantings have so many other benefits than just looking good. Now more commonly referred to as pollinator gardens. They take a little longer to establish from seed. The first-year maintenance is critical to the success of the gardens. Annual and bi-annual weeds are aggressive and need to be controlled. Pulling weeds and cutting them off are the first step in controlling them. Mowing down the garden, in this case I used a string trimmer, is the second method of controlling weeds. The fourth method would be spot spraying of weeds. Make sure to check out the videos about installing the wildflower & pollinator garden in the playlist linked below! Super informative! What would you do with the annual wildflowers the first year? Do you just leave them as is?

Thank you for this video. What time of year do you cut it all down?

Cutting the wildflowers down will force the roots to grow more... yes, you have to wait a little bit longer to see all the pretty! What's your favorite wildflower?
