Being a Muslim American in today’s society presents many challenges, but for Sara Berzingi, those obstacles started on the day she was born, September 12, 1996. She explains how devastating events have influenced the celebration of her birthday every year. In this TEDx talk, Berzingi presents ways to improve how we communicate with each other. Sara Berzingi is a Morgantown native and senior in the Eberly College of Arts & Sciences at West Virginia University. She is double majoring in Biology and English with a concentration in Professional Writing and Editing. She spent the last four summers volunteering with aid organizations abroad, working to manage the Internally Displaced Persons crisis emerging from the siege of Mosul, volunteering in a labor and delivery ward in Erbil, Iraq, and teaching English to children in an Iraqi refugee camp. Berzingi has served as president of the Muslim Student Association and is currently a diversity ambassador and student worker in the WVU Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Great job Sara! That was a great and informative talk and I hoped it opened people’s eye that building bridges between people are better than being isolated in thought.
