Too Close for Comfort is an American sitcom television series that aired on ABC from November 11, 1980, to May 5, 1983, and in first-run syndication from April 7, 1984, to February 7, 1987. Its name was changed to The Ted Knight Show when the show was retooled in 1986 for what would turn out to be its final season, due to Ted Knight's death. The original concept of the series was based on the 1980s British sitcom Keep It in the Family. Knight plays work-at-home cartoonist Henry Rush, who is married to Muriel, and their two adult daughters, Jackie and Sara, live in the downstairs apartment of their San Francisco two-flat. An episode involving the daughters moving across the bay to Oakland and the family complaining about crime, undrinkable water, and constant sound of police sirens saw the episode being briefly protested by Oakland politicians. The family moves to Marin County for the show's final season, where Henry Rush becomes a co-owner of the local weekly newspaper.

Ted Knight had a way with humor while being the serious guy. His facial expressions and timing were spot on. Thanks to Kurt for another fine watch giving homage to the 80's, the best decade for music and

Great trip down memory lane, i used to watch the show when i was a kid. I thought i was going to be a cartoonist like Ted Knight’s character on the show when i grew up 😂

You did a really awesome job! That was one of my favorite shows. 📺Great cast of actors! I loved seeing the then and now shots, especially of the city. As a kid I dreamed of growing up and living in that neighborhood where their house was (at the time the show was filmed it was a really nice area, not sure about now.) All those great 80's memories came flooding back to me. 😊I miss those days. Thanks so much! 👍🏼

Great video! Sausalito is also where the Record Plant is where Rumors by Fleetwood Mac and dozens of other big albums were recorded.

They were planning a 7th season for the show, but Ted Knight passed away from cancer, which he had been fighting for almost a decade.

Loved this. Loved this show when I was little growing up in Florida. Never did I think I would live in the Bay Area as an adult!

Great episode as always. I loved Too Close for Comfort and remember how sad I was when Ted Knight died. And when in SF remember it's a cable car---not a trolley (trolleys are powered by overhead lines). And chimneys were removed for earthquake retrofitting after the '89 earthquake.

Nicely done Kurt. I always love that opening shot of the intro at the Golden Gate. Great work as usual.

Ted Knight was awesome, probably my favorite comedic actor growing up. I always thought it was strange that he didn't 'make it' in hollywood until later in life, after having lingered in bit roles for decades until he got the Mary Tyler Moore gig.
