The carrier’s design involved substantial input from Italy's Fincantieri, and key systems and components, such as radars, weaponry, and propulsion systems, were sourced from countries like Russia, Israel, and the United States. Additionally, Indian shipbuilders relied on foreign expertise during construction, and the supply chain for essential parts was global. These dependencies on foreign design, technology, and components limit the extent to which INS Vikrant can be regarded as entirely indigenous
