In this short clip from the 2000 movie "THE PATRIOT" Benjamin Martin
(Mel Gibson) finds a patched up American Flag in his son's saddlebags.
A flag his son had carried throughout the war until being fatally
wounded in a skirmish with the British the day before.

Now on horseback with flag in hand, Martin finally embraces the cause
while lifting the spirits of a tired & battle weary colonial army.

As an Australian, this scene makes me proud to be an American.

For those unaware, this scene is of a man coming to terms with the big picture, after losing multiple sons to the enemy. You don't give up. You push forward for what is right and STAY THE COURSE.

A battle torn flag that’s been patched back together and still fly’s proudly will always brings a louder message in war. No matter how many times or how hard you hit us we will always get back up and fight back.

What makes this scene really work is the new patch that Gabriel put on that torn flag after he was told it, the Revolution, was a lost cause. In honor of the fallen. Happy Memorial Day!

My dad is no soldier but he's fought for us every day for so long. All 8 of his children revere him. Through our mom's sickness, the financial ruin, and many other challenges... he just keeps fighting back. I can't see him often and I play this video when I think of him. To me, this is his significance to us. A real hero.

This was one of the best scenes in the movie, seeing the troops trudge along with a dreary march until Martin comes riding up with the flag waving combined with the music brought tears to my eyes.

The most patriotic scene ever!! Honestly cannot count how many times I would have seen this movie clip. But this scene will always touch my heart. These are the Greats we should look upto and feel inspired.

My father as a young impoverished man from South America emigrated to USA, married his wife and had children, and later joined the Army and served in Iraq. I’m not really patriotic but this scene moves me and makes me think about men like my father who served a country that gave him everything.

I feel so patriotic and proud of my country's struggles when watching this. God Bless America! "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness"

My grandmother came to America when she was 18 from Liverpool with only her younger sister and $20 to her name. She was born in a dresser drawer during the WWII bombing raids in England. For years her Father told her stories of the greatest land in the world and it’s what drove her to here to seek out freedom for herself. Years later when I was only 10, we watched this movie together and I will never forget the patriotism that she taught me at such a young age. When times are hard, the economy hurt and the people are in turmoil, we need to reflect back upon the sacrifice that was made for this country and her people. What comes to mind is this great quote from a great man. “Never was so much owed by so many to so few"

I'm very proud. My favorite movie, currently serve in the Army Reserve 3 years now & descend from a militia captain in Virginia that served during the American Revolution & I'm a Sons of the American Revolution member.

late 90's - early 2000's movie aesthetics are the best...theres a certain grainy feeling to them..obv nowhere near as quality as todays movies but for some reason its just better on the eyes...idk if its a filter or what but i love it...i miss that time period, sooo much fun
