If you are playing Helix through the loop of an actual amp/cab OR are using a power amp/cabinet. Don't choose cabs or impulse responses. Just set things up like a standard pedalboard. Choose the Amp and pedals and leave it at that. If running direct into a DAW or PA, then absolutely use Cab/mike/impulse response to taste.

Connect to HX Edit right from the start. That way, all the updates are automatic.

I have the hx stomp and want to upgrade to something bigger because of the dsp limitations. Do you think I should wait a while to see if line 6 announces a new modeler since helix has been out for a while? I am also considering the quad cortex

What am I missing ?
Surely if you have a pedalboard it goes into the front of the amp, so why is the amp and cab model not at the end of the signal change ?
