How To Rotate A Cube In Perspective

Have you ever wondered how to draw the cube in different angles? Or how do we rotate it properly? We know we have. And we couldn't find a comprehensive answer so that's why we made this. This isn't our discovery, this is a synthesis of what we've learned from other artists and teachers on the topic.

With the ellipse method you can now draw the cube in any angle.

I have watched dozens of videos trying to understand how boxes rotate in perspective, and this is EASILY the best one. Your pedagogy is exactly what I was looking for. Rather than just telling me how to rotate “this” box, you taught me how to rotate “any” box. THANK YOU!

Honestly, the only reason I've botched up most of these rotating cubes was because of the lack of the inner elipse to connect the tangents. Like, how have I never noticed that before? Such an underated video <3.

This is by far the most effective yet simpliest explanation of rotating a box with the ellipse method! Thank you

Rather than using an inner ellipse I've found it is much more useful to picture the larger ellipse as a 12hr analog clock. As an example, if one corner is on the 6th hour then the other corners are on the 9th, 12th, and 3rd respectively. You just need to practice dividing up ellipses.

Thank you so much. I don't know why I struggled with this, I thought I was broken :0

I have been looking for this video for like 3 years. I was considering learning how to rote learn each 10deg rotations for like 18 diff. view points.

That was gonna be like 180 diff cubes, even more if I tried to learn how to draw y-axis or x-axis rotated cubes.

You have saved me so much time! Now I just need to learn like 18 ref cubes and just practise this teq. to rotate them :).

P.S. This really needs to be taught after students have mastered a couple of viewpoints of the cube ASAP, otherwise they won't be able to vary their perspective as much!!

I've been looking for a way to get consistant "right angle" when rotating stuff for ages, could not find a clear explanation anywhere except "just eyeball it man". Thank you for sharing!

Yooo holy shit. I've been googling how to rotate boxes for YEARS and never seen something as easy to understand as this.

Your channel name is perfect for the video content you publish. The way you explain things feels so natural to listen and learn from. It's simple and straight to the point and it provides such in depth detail. I am making an explainer or a quick breakdown type of video showing how to animate a isometric cube in after effects, I will reference your video in the description as a source of information.

Most valuable simplified explanation out there. Can't believe it's so underrated. Good job dude.

You're a hero. I took me roughly one year between the time where I started thinking about how to rotate things in perspective and finding this so I feel like this is the end of a journey right now.

Great work ! I figured it out by doing my own experiments and research (where only your video explains it well) and one thing I haven’t found yet is how to correctly construct the outer ellipse.
