The songs are 'Mountain Dew' by Grandpa Jones (1947), 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown' by Flatt & Scruggs and The Foggy Mountain Boys (1949), and 'Dueling Banjos' by Arthur Smith (1954).

'Mountain Dew' lyrics:

There's a big holler tree down the road here from me
Where you lay down a dollar or two
You go round the bend and when you come back again
There's a jug full of good ole mountain dew

Oh they call it that ole mountain dew
And them that refuse it are few
I'll shut up my mug if you fill up my jug
With some good ole mountain dew

Well my uncle Nort, he's sawed off and short
He measures about four-foot-two
But he thinks he's a giant, when you give him a pint
Of that good ole mountain dew

Well my ole aunt Jill bought some brand new perfume
It had such a sweet smellin' pew
But to her surprise when she had it analyzed
It was nothin' but good ole mountain dew

Well the preacher rolled by with his head heisted high
Said his wife had been down with the flu
And he thought that I ought just to sell him a quart
Of that good ole mountain dew

My brother Bill got a still on the hill
Where he runs off a gallon 'er tew
The buzzards in the sky get too drunk they can’t fly
From smelling that good ole mountain dew

Oh they call it that ole mountain dew
And them that refuse it are few
I’ll shut up my mug if you fill up my jug
With some good ole mountain dew

A different time and culture for sure. My father passed away two years ago at 90 years old. His side of the family is from West Jefferson, always loved it when we would go there growing up. All of the people there were always so polite, respectful and really friendly.

My maternal grandad was from Mooresville. He lied about his age in 1937 to join the Navy. He spent the next 20 years going all over the Pacific during WW2 and the Korean War. His last sibling died about 6 years ago. I still have cousins that live around there. I wonder if any of my relatives were in this video. My great grandad was a barber in town.

Chill. 2nd half has footage of Rocky Mount, NC. Not sure about the river, or neighborhoods near the end (Grocery with Coca Cola Ad reminds me of Lincolnton, NC.
