Cisco BHTV: Supersonic shockwaves and aerodynamics

Показать описание
When you’re covering a mile in a blistering 3.6 seconds you need to know the car is safe and stable. Aerodynamics and managing the supersonic shockwaves the car creates is key reaching 1,000mph / 1,600kph. Dr Ben Evans from the University of Swansea explains all….

Can't wait. Absolutely can't. I'll be watching every moment in this historic project. Amazing.

A mile! In 3.5 seconds!!!
Holy cow I freaking love everything about this project. It's so cool how you guys were able to get so many partners on board.
In Dutch there's a saying: A fat goose drips itself. It means something that is good of it's own doesn't need outside help, it can ride it's own wave.

I've been watching for this since 1997! I cannot wait to see this run.

Went to Black Rock and watched these guys and Breedlove, awesome display of speed. Didn't get to stay long enough to see the sound barrier broken, still bummed about that.
Too bad Breedlove couldn't get the type of support these guys got, might have been real interesting.
Can't wait too see this thing run, just wish I could be their live again.

Though I agree the soak temperature during runs will hit 100C kinetic heating for 20 second run wont cause a 100C temp rise. Its simply not long enough tip. I was curious why the bottom is flat as that is unfavourable for reflected shockwaves creating lift at the front

Loved it! How many decimal places do you use for GPS?

Alway thought that canopy was a clever bit of design.

*Wile E. Coyote AND Road Runner* don't stand a cat in hell's chance of keeping up with this! :P

If I remember correctly, consumer GPS has a limit of about 1200mph so that should be fine. I wonder if they're using consumer or military-grade GPS?

When you say your speed is measured by a special GPS, more accurate than a phone GPS, can you please elaborate? Is that differential GPS or something different?

Doesn't the presence of the bow shock pose problems for the pitot tube on the fin?

Just put a ramp at the end and we have sub orbital flight like no problem. xD

Wish you guys would do the fastest watercraft. That record needs to be broken.

NO - GPS isn’t the most accurate, timing stations on the ground and sensors with in Bloodhound that link to the ground base stations are the most accurate. Just like Boniville... Time over distance, known distances and measured time Mile is the most acccurate.

Combustion can not be occured in supersonic flow. Cmiiw

100 degrees C? You are barely going supersonic, how is that possible?

Has this thing even turned a wheel yet?? WOW what a lemon.

It looks inherently unstable. Too high CofG and too narrow.
